Heart pt 6 is top tier in his discog. Use Your Heart is one of my all time favorite r&b songs so maybe that's part of it but it's an excellent song.

 

I also really liked reincarnated and man at the garden, but I didn't feel anything else. Rap isn't my genre so I won't even try to type a full "critique" of anything. I don't know ****. But to me, this is definitely his worst or least good album. I didn't connect

when the chorus of Luther goes "if it was up to me..." is so beautiful, love their voices together. 

After 4 listens, the only song I don't care for is gnx, it needed an additional Kendrick verse.

I think what I'm liking about this album is that, while there is a slight narrative and it's still "artsy" (reincarnated/heart pt 6, etc) this album feels more like a victory lap for Kendrick. 

 

I think something that kind of missed slightly with Mr. Morale was that it felt like it was trying to follow up TPAB/Damn. even though there were plenty of good songs on it. I think it just fell a little short compared to those two albums. 

 

GNX feels like it's a return to more upbeat/fun music for Kendrick, more like his earlier work. In that sense it's a little refreshing and shows he can make easy to listen to music that you don't necessarily need to read along on Genius to enjoy. And that's not taking shots at TPAB/Damn. either, it just shows he's a very flexible and talented artist.
