I watched it recently and didn't think it was that bad?

 

at max, the pacing is kinda slow… but it's overhated imo

Because 2,977 innocent people died.

The movie and soundtrack were horrible.

I'm a fan of hers but I just thought the acting was bad. The movie's a bit cheesy too

Mariah was dragged because it was her movie and made specifically for her. It's a boring movie, the writing was terrible and made no sense at times, editing was embarrassingly bad. It's supposed to take place in the 80's but the production and costume design gave up at some point because some costumes and set design is very early 2000's lol. 

 

The acting wasn't bad though. Mariah was fine. Everything else was bad. It's not even fun to watch as a bad movie because it's just too boring.

The end product came off as a low budget A Star is Born, deffo needed a better directiona and editing.

The soundtrack had bad single choices. If We should've been the lead instead of LoverBoy. That sample mess derailed the whole era.

the soundtrack was def not bad at all ... literally some of her best vocals ever are on it

It was a colossal bomb + people were insensitive to her mental health struggles.

 

I think contemporary critics have reevaluated and praised the soundtrack album.

 

I'm not really a fan, but "Loverboy" is one of the best pop songs of all time.

and the scenes were so jarring one minute it's a rom and drama film, then it's a goofy comedy when she has scenes with Da Brat and the other girl

If We was just as bad if anything should have been the lead single it should have been All My Life

Actually Mariah wanted it to go in a darker direction and the initial script was quite different but she was vetoed by the studio. It was set up for failure from the beginning. 

The movie is not a disaster but it's way too weak for something made to tell the story of one of the biggest female singers, and to be on teathers. Had it be marketed as a series made for TV only I don't think the she would have suffered that bad rep. Also the accompanying music isn't bad at all, she had a few gems in there, the poor reception was fueled by media bullying and unprofessional criticism, as usual.

The movie is rather meh and so is the soundtrack. It has some highs like Lead The Way and Reflections, but also some of her worst songs like Don't Stop and If We.

 

The hate was overdone though, the 2000's media were brutal on pop stars. Other case in point, Gimme More at the 2007 VMA's.

Glitter is in my top five Mariah albums.

The cinematography is TVyish, and the script is bad, but the entire scene of Mariah in the club with the Seguros Vitalicio cap is ICONIC.
