If Lifetimes was the lead?

Featured Replies

Do you think the 143 era would be fairing better right now if LIFETIMES was chosen as the lead single over Woman's World?

Imo Lifetimes sounds more like a Katy Perry song, Woman's World is too obnoxious (and certainly the message of the song + Luke tainted it)

It still would've been a weak way of introducing the era. I genuinely think they overcalculated how much nostalgia points they could cash in. The promo for Woman's World was there… but the actual song was just not it, neither is Lifetimes.

it would do the same. its almost obscenely generic without an ounce of personality but also not at all on trend, like a random track by a croatian dj featuring rita ora you'd hear once in a zara and never again. who would be into this song? very strange decisions happening over at kary perry HQ.

It doesn't matter. It would have still bombed. Tanked. Whatever.

:hoetenks:

It sounds too generic and like some random song by anyone. Working with Dr luke was not the problem otherwise all the artists getting hits by working with him would not get hits. She needed to come back swinging with a catchy hot n cold type song that even bitter atrl popper gays would end up liking.

I honestly don't think it could have changed the outcome either way…

Woman's world was a feminist anthem produced by Dr. Luke. :stare: Lifetimes is also by Dr. Luke. Bad timing with Kesha's Joyride also coming out at almost the same week. Bad PR no matter how you slice it.

While the general public may not give two shits, the critics will always care about something like this and the people follow their lead. And people DO listen and base opinions off music critics like Fantano.

I like it much more than WW's and actually streamed it a few times since release.

That said, it's not anything groundbreaking or innovative, a name like Katy Perry needs more.

I love the song so much and is so uplifting and summerish but to be fully honest is very generic. Same as Woman World. They feel overly manufactured
Smile even if its panned by the stans. All the songs feel far more more original and unique than the ones from this record. Like there's soul with it. They have personality
This album feels like katy on autopilot. Like an "AI Creation" of how a Katy dance record should be :giraffe:
Hope there's something different in the record. Nirvana looks promising

No, unfortunately it's the definition of a cheap old-sounding dance record, it's a terrible song, especially the chorus

I'm sure she must have better songs on the album and hopefully one of them will become a hit

Idk what they were thinking rush releasing it :rip:other songs she previewed sounded like they'd do better

It's bad. She could have gotten away with a Luke comeback if the lead was good and not about women.

At least WW is a godawful bomb in the worst way possible

Lifetimes is just completely forgettable

WW was such a flop that the GP never even heard it. So most people who heard Lifetimes probably thought it was the lead. And it only made top 15…of the bubbling under chart…:deadbanana2:

it would've done better (higher peak, charting for 2-3 weeks instead of 1) but that's it, unless some viral dance/meme like Say So/Nasty happened

I think it still would've bombed, but it maybe wouldn't have ruined her reputation as bad as WW did.

It was obvious to me from the snippets the song was generic, dated, lyrically uninspired and stale production-wise. She can do so much better and even the worst hater would agree. I'm sure there is, there has to be, better material on the album and I can't understand why she's dropping the ball so hard with her singles.

Bomb. It completely lacks the quirk and personality that characterized Katy's smashes from over a decade ago. It sounds like a Bebe Rexha x DJ collab.

People just aren't interested in her. Hang it up, flat screen.
