Artists who had a negative impact?

Featured Replies

What are the artists who had impact, but said impact turned out to be a net negative?

Oasis' Morning Glory album is obviously a classic, but its highly compressed sound was a landmark moment in the Loudness Wars, helping to usher in records like B'Day, Back to Black and that one Metallica album that sounds better on a video game than on the actual CD. :dies:

Eminem is obviously a super-talented rapper, but he inspired a wave of white rappers who think the faster you rap, the better your music sounds.

She paved the way for the mediocrity that's ruining the industry nowadays. A certain someone looked at this and said 'hm cool, let me take this and make a billion dollar career out of it' :deadbanana:

Drake for prioritizing quantity over quality and making a career out of being shady towards women and treating them like objects in his lyrics and personal life. Not to mention being a creep.

The Weeknd & PartyNextDoor.

HoB and PND are projects that should've never been replicated. Diluted the genre, encouraged bad singing, stagnated lyrical themes and lack of soulfulness. Still lingering on in Contemporary R&B. (both great projects to me, HoB more so, but yeah...)

Drake opened the flood gates for people to ignore most cultural pre-requisites of Hip Hop. Now nobody cares that you have people writing your verses.

Cardi B helped to lower the standard of mainstream female rappers.

That's facts

Beyoncé to the new generation of black female artists, but it's not her fault, it's the media's and the industry's fault. :duck:

Everyone expects someone from the new generation to be "the new Beyoncé". The girls instead of making generic and fun music to first attract the gp, they immediately try to gain acclaim with music that not everyone likes, spend their entire budget on BIG visuals and adopt a diva/goddess attitude that only looks good on Beyoncé :duck:

Selena gomez , she made the "you can make it with no talent and being mediocre" wave possible

i would argue that eminem is responsible for a lot of the depraved behavior people, but mainly men, display on the internet :skull:

there was literally a period during the mid 2010s where he was fantasizing about abusing women in his raps, and then you

get reminded of the dr. dre of it all and :hoetenks: people give him way too much

Beyonce with her endless sampling… 0 new music ideas, just ripoffs :skull:

Also, Ava Max, if we're gonna talk about sampling :rip:

Garth Brooks paved the way for cheap discounted double album tactics to garner diamond albums (despite nobody knowing a single song by him). This type of gaming the system for #1's/sales was replicated by BTS, which then bled into Taylor Swift's strategy of variant terrorism.

The whole teen pop phenomenon at the turn of the century played a large part in the immaturity and ageism that's afflicted pop music ever since.

I sometimes think the massive success of my fave bey's solo career made it difficult for black women in rnb/pop to be mainstream (apart from Rihanna of course). Things finally got better in the late 2010s

Sampling has been a staple of hip hop music long before Beyoncé debuted. :rip:

Agreed that Ava helped birth some lazy interpolations tho (not to be confused with samples) , but even that is a reductive take. It has far more to do with the Blurred Lines lawsuit scaring everyone into outright sampling/interpolating instead of being "inspired by", as well as big companies buying artists' catalogues and "incentivizing" songwriters to interpolate old hits.

Hilary Duff, because then Disney started to think every disney channel actor could be a pop star and they started to put them in the worst record deals possible with little to no creative freedom and distinctive personality…

I really don't like the impact 808s & Heartbreak by Kanye had on other artists when it comes to vocal production. I feel like ever since it's become trendy to be ridiculously experimental on that department and it's been exaggerated. But I'm getting used to it now lol

In the 2010s, there weren't any mainstream female rappers aside from Nicki before Cardi debuted so what was the standard :cm:

I was thinking about this yesterday. Does she have a single song that is not just a rewrite of something else ?

The only person I can think of is someone like Kid Rock.  Like wtf is this?

The thing that he is a FAKE. He does not live his life like this.  He uses stupid imagery to make money off of ignorant people. :michael:

Well... I mean you kind of nailed it yeah. There are still come gems but acts like Ice Spice and Sexyy Red never would have hit the mainstream in a pre-Cardi B world.
