It's because American dads think "I was circumcised so I will also do the same to my son". I don't think it's much deeper than that.

 

I remember reading that it used to be more common in the UK but when the NHS was introduced, routine infant circumcision wasn't covered as a free procedure so people stopped doing it as much.

For religious reasons largely. I think the US is rare in the sense that they don't have a predominantly Muslim or Jewish population, but circumcision is still very widespread.

Yeah I've never understood why people think body shaming people for being cut or uncut is ok. At the end of the day, it's not something most guys had much say in. Nothing wrong with having a preference one way or the other, but there's no need for the insults.
