Would Bionic do better if Xtina released "Woohoo" ?

Featured Replies

It had Nicki who at the time was doing very well commercially.

No, she needed to release something risky like Monday Morning/Birds Of Prey/Little Dreamer and go against the grain of the 2010 music landscape.

? It was released as the second single (only a month after NMT) & it flopped severely. plus nicki was still a somewhat unknown at the time,,,,,,woohoo was one of the first really big pop features she did I think.

Yes, this is basically correct. It was a buzz single and didn't seem to gain traction. It was serviced to some radio and a video was planned but they pulled everything pretty quickly from what I can tell.

The media negativity + her forthcoming divorce at that time killed this era quickly. I don't think any single from Bionic would have saved it, and I'm saying this as someone who loves the album.

Realistically no, even though the song is an 11/10 eternal banger. Her branding had always centered on her vocals but especially after B2B and the James Brown tribute and all the collabs with legends, she had solidified herself as a big singer and people were not here for her doing electro club ****. That explains the very lukewarm reception to Keeps Getting Louder and (partly) why the Burlesque soundtrack instantly did better than Bionic even though it had less hype and she was fat, nasty, broke, career in shambles at the time

I don't think it would have done much better. Nicki was still an unknown rapper at the time and Nicki has shown over the years that her presence on a song doesn't automatically make it a hit (i.e. her collaborations with Little Mix, Fergie, Kim Petras, Katy Perry, etc.)

no one could handle the next level cvntiness legend x (& nicki) would've served with a woohoo music video. i remember there was an alleged designer prepping corsets for a mv but dont know if that was official. i envisioned flashy bedazzled woohoos all over

now that i think about it it's never to late to make a mv for this underground cult classic if she wants to do it for the #fans. manifesting bionic: woohoo expanded 15 anniversary edition ft scrapped goldfrapp tracks

I’m not sure, but there’s where my username came from because I couldn’t think of one and it was the song I was listening too at the time

I think if she released it as the lead, then yes. But she should've at least tried to push Monday Morning, it's a very unique song sonically for her and I feel like it sounds "fresh" enough for radio

Woo hoo as the first single + no negative press. It would have ate and would been one of the most iconic albums. It had the visuals. Budget was budgeting.  Body was bodying. Pipes were piping. It had all the necessary ingredients, plus she had the ambition to succeed. Too bad she shaded Gaga and got cancelled. She learned her lesson tho

Its the best bop on the album but no. She should've sticked to generic pop like the rest did in that period of time

Monday Morning was the hit that got away. Imagine that as the first single with a really futuristic and vibrant video?

I always thought she should have released the song Bionic. It charted on its own with zero promotion & it was very different for her.

Bionic was never gonna prosper just off the strength that Lady Gaga was head of the pack at the time. The music was really ahead of the curve and too abstract for pop music at the time. I also think Bionic had too many sounds and it was hard to pinpoint what the foundation musically was for the album was at the time. It wasn’t just one genre and during that time, the GP wasn’t very monolithic.

Monday Morning is far and away the best song on that album, and one of her best ever. I think that as the 1st single actually would save the era. NMST is a terrible song, but the worst part about is that it was exactly what the anti-Ytina bandwagon needed at that moment.

It should have been market as indie electro pop as Xtina intended it to be as it is shown via her collaboration with smaller producer. Monday Morning could have been a nice hit, it may not be a huge pop hit but introduced something very different from her.
If it had followed her original plan, it might not have been a huge commercial success, but should have received more acclaim and became a classic from her.
also, it wouldn’t demotivate her from trying and ambitious as she used to be. I think Bionic flopped hit her really hard. Imagine working on an album for such a long time just for ppl to drag it (even it was far from a bad album).
