I've been curious how ATRLers view these 2 albums 7 & 6 years after their release. As we all know, Fergie & Gwen were on top of the world in the mid-to-late 2000s - both being solo artists who were former members of immensely popular groups. Their respective albums from this time period have sold nearly 20 million copies collectively.

Coincidentally, they also both took a decade long hiatus before releasing a new album. Both of these albums were unable to recapture the popularity they had before, and were commercial failures that garnered mixed reviews from critics and fans alike. Fergie's Double Dutchess was criticized for her failure to evolve as an artist and Gwen's This Is What The Truth Feels Like was seen as largely forgettable.

What are your thoughts on these albums when you take into account the massive success of their predecessors? Which one do you prefer and why? What went wrong?

Double Dutchess has a ton of bops and I actually use it every now and again.    The other album was disgusting considering what LAMB was. That’s what happens when you marry a conservative ma

  • Y’all can say all you want about TIWTTFL, but she gave us this, so she’s forgiven

They are actually both good albums and would get more love if they had performed better on the charts

I actually like Double Dutchess. She just waited too damn long and the moment had passed.

Double Dutchess gave us an iconic ATRL moment with the whole mess about the leak, a couple of bops and a great music video though!

Other than MILF $ I don’t care for DD at all. Gwen’s album was nice, I didn’t realize it was so hated on here, but I’m also not really surprised :cm:

Well..Gwen had such MAGIC, such vibe

I Still use her first and somewhat second album

her mind was out of this world and still holds so much strength

What she delivered with this comeback was...Meh

and she disappoints me even more with recent music that she has released...

it's like her vision has Totally gone Poof! i blame her hillbilly husband

While Fergie didn't set her standard so high, she still had amazing stuff

but what she delivered afterwards, was up to par with a lot of the stuff that had been released at the time

and it was actually listenable (at least without being sad of what she was + it still Fit her)

she deffo had better stuff as a whole

why do I remember people liking TIWTTFL?

both have some cute moments though. I love Tension and Make Me Like You

Gwen for sure.. her album lacked seasoning. No redeeming songs anywhere and I don’t have to hear it ever again.

Double Dutchess wasn’t like amazing but I can still revisit a good handful of those songs with no issue.

As a fan of both, and as somebody who preferred Gwen over Fergie (back in the day), Double Ductchess is an incredible album and era that was hideously mismanaged. Gwen’s album was good and I loved it at the time but I feel it was the beginning of her quality decline when she met Blake.

DD was a decent album. The problem was she waited too long after Milf money to release it. Also that mess with the atrl member who leaked it and likely got sued

gwens album was terrible. I’m slightly biased cause I always hated Gwen’s solo music minus HBG, cool and sweet escape.

DD is a great album, the rollout was a mess. Gwens album is uninspired and bored.

The fact that Fergie gave us a visual album>>>

i'm sorry but they both were equally terrible. both lacked the artistic integrity their previous albums had. not that anything on them wasn't catchy or a bop, it's just... wasn't either one of those women and what we have come to know of their discography.

Fergie manager topic :bibliahh:

Yall can say what you want about double dutchess but this album was a moment here. threads gifs leaks mess everything and it's great album in my opinion  Gwen album also is great but she waited too long just like Fergie

Gwen was more disappointing. Fergie's was simply due to a failure on behalf of BMG.
