Whose career would be over without samples?

Featured Replies

When it comes to established artists (people with more than 2 albums out) who do you think relies the most on samples to keep their career alive? Please post receipts.

Samples are becoming more and more common for major artists. I think samples are great when used creatively or in new ways, but I’m personally getting tired of songs that are literally retreads of old songs and bring almost nothing new to the table for a quick lil hit. What do you think ATRL?

Samples are getting more common because music is being made and generated at a faster pace now with little creativity required. That's probably why songs are shorter too. It's more an industry thing than an individual artist thing.

Meghan Trainor, Beyonce, Bebe Rexha

Interesting... its gotta be a hip-hop artist tbh, probs Kanye? Drake even, like, most of hiphop is reliant on sampling...

The recent pop/dance sampling is very new, its cause creativity is dead, everyone is pulling from old **** now and remixing/re-doing old songs... but hip-hop has been doing this WELL before pop/dance has

Saweetie and Coi Leray since neither of them have had any success without sample heavy songs.

That Anne-Marie girl too.

Cardi B. All of her biggest hits are samples.

Bodak Yellow - sampled no flockin' by kodak black

I Like It - sampled i like it like that by pete rodriguez

Be Careful - sampled ex factor by lauryn hill

WAP - sampled frank ski

Up - not an official sample but the "if its up then its stuck" slang has been used so many times

Not me not knowing that about BY and WAP :rip:

I don't know music production theory but aren't samples literally everything? Like it's not just sound from other song, it can be just kickdrum sample from software you use right? Correct me if I'm wrong

They're talking about samples from other, older hits. Regardless, it's just a current phase. It'll phase out into something different soon.

I think we need to differentiate between the cleverly done samples that's been prevalent in and interlinked with hip-hop (the type Kanye does well) and the lazy sampling that the likes of David Guetta has been terrorizing us with as of late.

Why did I know that it would be the usual trolls posting this delusional nonsense? :skull: Who do you think you're fooling?

It's been over 40 years and people are still fuming over samples? :rip:

David Guetta and that annoying Anne Marie girl have been destroying all the classics lately.

YT users forgot sampling was always a thing in the Black community esp in the R&B and Hip Hop genres. :rip:
