It looks messy now, but back then as a kid I was LIVING. It was a nice thing for charity, and something like this with some of the biggest divas coming together for a track dedicated to a good cause will probably never happen again, but this was a nice cute moment that could have been better arranged.

It does. Stanning for so many people is how we first built communities as young people. A good number of people, especially those who are queer and marginalized, have to find communities where they can feel accepted, and a good number do through joining a fandom. And I think music being able to do that is beautiful. And that's why while I can't understand any regular person who would throw $1,000 for an empty pine box, I do feel sympathy for them because that's their way of remaining in the fold and "supporting" their fave. Just in the same way you have people defending such an outrageous thing as selling an empty box, because defending your fave despite whatever bs they've done comes along with all this. And labels and artists know this, and they probably won't ever stop especially now that they've seen that they could do the least and still fleece people out of money.

Exactly! Like is it not wild to post something about people helping fund massacres and pricing the average person out of insulin as the defense for the greed our faves have been displaying recently? That there are worse and more evil wealthy people amd corporations out there doesn't necessarily absolve them of the unethical things they're doing. They're fleecing people at a time where rent prices are hiked, grocery prices are soaring, unemployment is on the rise, and there's more and more homelessness. People arguing about people not having to spend the money as though there isn't a whole psychology involved in these fave-stans relationships which these artists and their managements are clearly exploiting is ridiculous. They know a good portion of us have formed a parasocial sort of relationship with them; they know that in this strange relationship a win for them seems like a win for us (when it is not, you're just getting a short-lived high from attaching their successes to yourself while your real life remains relatively unchanged); they know because of this tie stans will throw their money at their faves for whatever. And all of this is becoming very untenable. Is it a cult follower's choice to throw their life savings to their cult leader in spite of this causing suffering to themselves? Yes. Is it ethical for the cult leader to accept this knowing well enough the conditions of their followers? Absolutely not. And I'm using the cult analogy because this is literally what it has become. Things have not been the same since artists and labels found out that they could use and exploit the sense of belonging and companionship found in stan and fan cultures and the adoration and idol-worship. And this has to be called out. I don't care if I like some of these artists and even if some are my faves, but it's becoming increasingly diabolical.

I'm not so sure if this is true. While, sure, inflation has gone up, it hasn't gone so high as to necessitate some of the ludicrous things they're selling. What's more musicians have never been as wealthy as they are now. No point in time, as is the case today, were there been six billionaires who have made their wealth from their renown as musicians. Point being they're not hurting for money. Janet, Madonna, Mariah, etc were legacy acts while Taylor, Rihanna, and Beyoncé were hitting their commercial peaks in terms of sales, and they weren't as greedy as this. The thought of them becoming sellers of lingerie or an empty box for $1,000 was unheard of back then. But there are three times as many billionaires today in the world than there were ten years ago, which is to say that people have been extracting more from the masses these past recent years than they were before, and some of our faves are just the same way. They're insatiable and know they have a following that will throw money their way and they take advantage of that whilst disregarding the ethics that are involved in it. Not saying that they're the first greedy bunch of individuals but it's getting real stark real quick. Also, I should add: I don't hate any of them: Rihanna, Beyoncé, Taylor, etc, and stream their music and like them to varying degrees, but let's call a spade a spade.

We've seen more disrespectful things happen on stages than this, so no. I think the Taylor thing was tactless in the sense she probably didn't think the other nominee who lost probably wouldn't want to go on stage with her and forcibly dragged her, as well as not paying more due respect to a legend than she ought to (I can only imagine how defensive she would be twenty years from now if the same scenario happened with her and a younger artist). But I don't believe she intentionally wanted to be mean, she just didn't think of others as much as she thought of herself which is unfortunate.

Did OP randomly think of this 10 years later And Rihanna doesn't have the main writing credit on any of Anti's tracks nor is Anti the first album she has writing credits on. She has writing credits going as far back as her debut with Music of The Sun. Do I think she might have tweaked a word or two, absolutely. And she got the credit for that seeing she's usually listed as the near end songwriter. We know that she didn't write any of the songs from "the ground up" and neither her stans, nor Rihanna, nor the credits say that, so what exactly is the point of this thread?

I think pop stars have gotten greedier and greedier as time has gone by with the exception of a few. I think it's more a reflection of the times as the wealthier have gotten greedier in general. Be it from selling makeup and panties to empty pine boxes to 5,000 variants to tickets costing what they do now, and it's just like how more greedy could you get, especially when the people who are most notorious for this are the wealthiest pop stars

It is a 502 pages high gloss paper book consisting of more than 1,000 pictures taken by a whole world renowned photographer, Dennis Leupold, who has done editorials for luxury brands and fashion magazines, taken during a span of YEARS. The other editions you're referring to had actual gold plate stands and the rare ones which were only 10 in the whole world were marble sculptures done by world renowned artists The Haas Brothers. While one could make an argument for how expensive luxury items (which the Rihanna coffee table book and its stands are), it is beyond ridiculous to compare it to a small empty pine wood box. The levels of craftsmanship, the quality of materials used, the time spent in developing, the costs of production and the different processes, the market values, etc of both items are so dissimilar that it's beyond comprehension that anyone would even compare the two scenarios
