2NE1. People seem to forget that they used to have back to back hits

Clap Your Hands - Go Away - Can't Nobody were literally released on the same day

Lonely - IATB - Hate You - Ugly were simultanously released as well

I mean yeah but I'm sure there were more cases between 2NE1 and New Jeans. Maybe Sistar in like 2014? Twice around 2017-208? Still, so long ago lmao

ngl i thought they were gonna go all in and completly change the formula

the whole endless tv stages, brand embassador, performance<>coreography videos on yt

which is SO formulatic but i can't complain too much right, i don't think it's ever gonna change

How is Hype Boy still top5 across all platforms still after like 6 monhts? :deadbanana: Is it viral on Tik tock or something?

I don't keep up with charts much, when was the last time a group had such digital power? I can't see it for BP to have multiple songs smahsing like this since their releases are so sparse, maybe Twice?

I think it's because many celebrities and idols covered this song in October and November which makes a resurgence in streams + The releasing of Ditto and OMG make people revisit their previous discog

I'm so worried around here that I'm hearing people thinking that's the best part. Like genuinely worried. That part os so ugly on the ears, how can y'all stand it?

Twice truly SMASHED with Cheer Up - TT - Knock Knock

SISTAR released once every year so it's not really comparable

the choreo went viral

Seeing LSF, IVE, and NJ’s success really makes me wonder what SM needs to do to gain international appeal off the jump.  They’ve literally never had that before even groups like Itzy had that appeal (before the release of one too many duds).

Is it really just the music? Bc they’ve been slacking on views and streams all across the board outside of Korea compared to other groups.

I remember Touch My Body and I Swear were released close to one another that's why I thought of them

that attention release was just too good. no ads, no marketing, no pre-release promo

the only thing you could judge was the material

tiffany-pollard.gif

now everyone wants rookie groups to debut this way (see babymonster)

now let's talk about attention

the song was fresh, the european mv was fresh, the visuals were fresh (the natural hair was kind of genius tbh)

who's doing it like them? :jonnycat: this proves how much people love innovation, especially in a formulatic industry like k-pop. PERIOD

+ they did not try to be blackpink 10.0

Jeon Somi is such a star. It’s a shame she’s stuck in the dungeon under YG/TBL making bad music.

the way newqueens had everyone shook when they held the top 2 & had a 3rd song in the top ten with their debut

only for them to hold the top 3 & have a fourth song in the top 10 a few months later :loki:

SM makes noise thats it.

Not in a BLACKPINK way, BLACKPINK and YGs brand of 'noise' is basically minimalistic songs that rely heavily on swagger and rhythm which BLACKPINK really does pull off.

SM makes noisy music, its not catchy nor coherent, ANTIFRAGILE may be noisy for many but it has a clear cut opening verse prechorus chorus and post hook. Not to mention its melody is STRONG, many say its overproduced but its still in the Top 200 on Spotify Global.

SM really needs to focus on choosing GOOD catchy pop songs first and not whatever the hell nævis and KWANGYA need bc :toofunny3:

it’s hilarious how Aespa blows up with NL, then IVE comes in with Love Dive and everyone’s is like whoa they got a bigger hit than NL, then NJ comes with Hype Boy and now that’s looking like it could be bigger than Love Dive

:deadbanana4: This generation is insane with the smashes so far. A new group is popping up with a national hit every year so far

Also people need to stop think lyrics don’t matter in Kpop. They do. Lyric videos get tens of millions of views for popular songs.

SM struggles digitally and on streaming services most of the time because their lyrics are AWFUL (outside of Taeyeon and RV half the time).

The songs they think have international appeal are all dated 2010 pots and pans music. The fact that Aespa had Savage in 2021 that literally had a DUBSTEP dance break followed by screeching :deadbanana2: and then on top of that they have nonsensical lyrics.

But Dubstep in this decade? SM is so out of touch. They’ll never be that group internationally again. They had it 1st and 2nd gen with YG but now they’re completely outclassed.

ANTIFRAGILE is literally a reggaeton song and Latino music is really hot right now

SM's music is entirely different

The prob with SM is marketing. They had a chance with Bad Boy and Psycho but didn't do anything. And they chose Life Too Short out of all songs to promote aespa :rip:

The fact that ditto is just right now is straying to really grow in the charts :jonny5:

Almost top 10 :jonny5:

Riseee :jonny5:

Top 50

Actually I want Baby Monster to have songs like I Love You, Clap Your Hands & Hate You by 2ne1, all strike a good balance between feminine & YG’s signature girl crush concepts. They shouldn’t rehash DDDD & How You Like That type songs tho bc while those songs worked for BP, giving the new group that will surely create resentment within Blinks once they feel BP are completely sidelined in lieu of Baemon.

no I can never let him go
