Somi should give some tips to her BFF Giselle and the rest of the girls because she devoured :jonny5:

it’s concerning, because when group has a TRUE brand it’s hard to copy it, for example BP covers and tributes always end up weird because most idols lack their flavor

but here aespa got eaten up by Somi :rip: I guess YG just has that thing

The silly argument here, the reason why no sm artists achieved huge success since snsd because they intend to, kpop company is filled with money laundring etc thats why yg and hybe casually branched out with the black label and hybe with ador, see what happened to blackpink when they become so huge? They dissapear and only released once in a while this is to escape tax law, newjeans is technicaly under ador so they will maximize ther tactic and effort to succeed, kpop company received the money from government for spreading hallyu wave, sm has been very succesful and its their will to slow it down, i believe once sm branched out with new company like ador they will start to push harder.

Sm is in a very good condition with smcu they dont really need to be more succesful kpop is at the peak and they are maintaining it to not make it too saturated, i believe they are playing for a long success of kpop and i believe all these music experts from all company has a group meeting to discuss about future of kpop.

I love aespa but they will never really become huge like blackpink because its not the time, when one girlgroul emerge you can feel the difference if thats the choosen one. Lets be honest,  newjeans sing are terrible they are b side red velvet aong but how come they very succesful?  Company sejegi and indsustry plant, i think sm has already takrn their part in kpop with snsd superjunior nd tvxq as the pionerr of kpop...

can someone gif last Minji’s scene from OMG? :deadbanana4:

You all worried about SM's success while SM is surely planning the release of "Candy orchestra version":bibliahh:

Seriously, you guys know they release weird songs on purpose. whenever they want to, they release actual average music, see Taeyeon, Wendy, Joy, Onew, Minho, hell, even Exo's DFTF and you all let that one flop to HELL, no wonder they don't go for Radio fodder.

Exactly, i mean how come they choose birthday over on a ride? Black mamba and happiness is such a weird debut song, but when they want tosuceed they release catchy song like red flavour lol.. They release a weird song on purpose to slow down a girlgroup success..

The delusions here thinking im being delusional but can you not notice how aespa being MIA after selling million? They suddenly dissapear lol, even with a song like girls they still can manage to hit it big.. SM knew damn well illusion is a catchier song but they go with girls insted...

The reason why superm keep making a comeback is because they failed...

SM is desperate for success more than anyone : constant mediaplay, always mentioning BTS/BP, SUPERM, pushing their least appealing groups in the US :bibliahh:

SM would have had Western success with RV.

Bad Boy and Psycho are Gold eligible in the U.S. and Capitol Records literally said publicly that they wanted to sign the girls. Their staff even went to RV's tour.

But SM just ignored it.

It’s true had SM continued giving Psycho and Bad Boy’s to RV they would be huge internationally. So many non Kpop mutuals I have on Twitter gag for those two songs. Also I’ve heard Psycho’s intro multiple times on tiktok recently

The general consensus here is that SM seems to struggle to reach a good medium between noise and plainness. Makes sense tbh although Itzy and Stray Kids have noisy songs that have done well hmm..

I mean this isn't true, but they go for the riskier songs for no apparent reason tbh + it's a thing they have going on since like 2018-2019??? Their songs used to be basic pop songs with good vocals. Don't know what happened tbh.

Seeing LSF, IVE, and NJ’s success really makes me wonder what SM needs to do to gain international appeal off the jump.  They’ve literally never had that before even groups like Itzy had that appeal (before the release of one too many duds).

Is it really just the music? Bc they’ve been slacking on views and streams all across the board outside of Korea compared to other groups.

not sabotage your groups (exo and rv) when they are gaining traction :giraffe:

Every Kpop stans know the fact that SM has been always desperate for Western success since BoA so

FldNHBZWYAAQzmr?format=jpg&name=small

yes, SM wanted aespa to underperform so they sent them to Coachella, organised US promo for them and released mid English track to pander to the western radio, we get it

Red Velvet did too good with FMR so they needed Birthday

amazing logic!

I guess NCT Dream should be locked for at least two years now, since they have a streak of successful titles! or at least they will get a song like 2 baddies or something

Minji looked amazing as a doctor btw. She should get into acting

FldNHBZWYAAQzmr?format=jpg&name=small

Not Psycho already at 350M Spotify streams (only 10M behind TWICE's most streamed song and ofc no point to compare with BP) with no promo and Western push :sleigh:But we are supposed to be delulu :cm:

exactly lol

People don't understand how expensive it is to make a comeback for a group - buying demos, mastering, paying choreographers, directors, buying MV sets, music show stages, promotion at variety shows - it's not free and it costs a ton of MONEY

Especially for aespa, who have a sci-fi concept, who have SMCU episodes, who need a lot of CGI for Kwangya stuff, ae-characters like... it's pricey as F*CK

No company would want to waste hundreds of thousands of won or even millions of won just to underperform or slow down the success

They DO need success so that all their expenses would pay off so what's the point of this "flopping on purpose" tactic

5/6 of rv’s korean comebacks since 2019 have been red concepts…. this year is kinda overdue for a couple velvet albums to really stomp, they need to get a little serious I fear

My 2 cents:

SM as an entertainment company appeals to K-pop fans. Everything about their groups is very... K-pop. I don't know how to explain it beyond that - if you get it you get it. It's why you see SM acts dominate the discussion in a thread like this, but not actually achieve big international numbers.

I sought of see it as vaguely analogous to why J-pop has no international appeal. It's aimed at a particular audience.

Which is fine if SM didn’t act desperate for Western audiences while simultaneously releasing music only brainwashed Kpop fans would like aka Girls, virtually all NCT music, SuperM, Super Junior, Queendom, Birthday, Umpah Umpah, Rookie, etc.

They are clearly able to see the massive success certain songs have EXO’s Monster, The Eve, Love Shot, Growl, then RV Bad Boy, Psycho, etc.

But then they… choose to go back to ****

Nah sorry we cannot act as if SM doesn’t care about international appeal when Kpop is in its international stage. That’s simply not true and with their efforts with Aespa and SuperM, even  NCT to an extent we can see they’re clearly yearning for that success their contemporaries have.

Everyone wants to act as if SM don’t care but they do…they don’t make these groups just for the fun of it. Their marketing model is just very outdated and they continue to make poor decisions that setback the momentum of their groups.

Usually when a company sees something work they go with that. It’s crazy how RV’s most successful songs are velvet and yet they’ve done barely anything to meet that demand lmao.

Because they got money from money laundering, they got money from government,  they aim is to slow down kpop wave in general so it doesnt become too saturated, they want kpop to last long and i believe they dont want their group to killing each other momentum... You will notice this somehow in the future...

I'm not at all saying they don't care about international success - they're obsessed with it. They just have no idea how to do it because of what I said. All the groups are inaccessible for normies, particularly the boygroups + Aespa.

Red Velvet got the closest to genuine international success without even trying because they did accessible concepts that actually have international appeal with Psycho & Bad Boy. Aespa could do the same, but trashy generic **** like Life's Too Short ain't going to cut it.
