There’s a handful of pop gems on this album, but there’s also a lot of mediocre / filler tracks. I do understand what Republic meant by it not being good enough. At the time I was confused because Coconuts / HIFTB sounded incredible.

 

But this is a conversation they should’ve had with her before the rollout even started & got some more writers involved to strengthen the album.

Time to Cry has differently been inspired by Ariana's NTLTC.

 

So many elements are similar.

None of the songs really have explosive catchy choruses and I think that's the problem. They never soar. The quality of the verses and stuff is definitely there, but then the choruses just.....feel like extended verses almost.

 

We need more Heart To Break/Hillside Boys type choruses.

my theory is that Dr Luke was somehow very heavily involved in Era 1 which led to his experienced pop polish being the secret recipe and the top notch quality seen across every single. However, clearly something must have happened and he stopped being involved because most of these songs sound like knock off, lesser versions of her older songs and it seems like Kim and her current team are trying to tap into what her first Era did so well but are not nearly reaching that level of quality... hence the departure of Dr Luke and the subsequent major decline in quality.

 

This is rly the only explanation for how she could put out killer non-album singles but now when all eyes are on her and she has an actual record label to give her the push she always needed, just suddenly can't make songs of the same caliber -- right when she needs to put out the very best of her career.

 

It's all so baffling and tbh i think it must boil down to something like this honestly 

i agree… also another point tho is that artists have a very long time to perfect their debut.

 

after a successful debut, the demand for a follow-up calls for tight deadlines and when it’s not done right, quality is lost…

This album is absolutely incredible. I'm beyond devastated at the way this whole Republic deal has gone down though. Started off so triumphantly with FSN, that incredible Steven Klein shoot, VMAs, then EMAs and then.... It all fell apart.

 

 I don't know why the "Coconuts" release was so insanely delayed and it never got a video. Like labels are OBSESSED with tiktok viral moments and it literally had one and... Then 2 months later they released the single like.... Wtf was going on???  and then stalled for 6+ months and now if all leaked 

 

Make it make sense. 

 

Kim is such a superstar with such an ear for hooks and fun clever lyrics. 

I’ve been bopping to Deeper on repeat and thinking, “this instrumental sounds familiar”. Does anyone else notice this song sounds like Tinashe’s “Undo (Back to my Heart)”?

I don't really remember it that well but I think her team messed up FSN release too, right?

I think she performed this song weeks before the release and when it was released they premiered the video a whole month later. Not to mention that it wasn't (?) send to radio. 

 

The roll-out was a huge mess.

We don't know the tracklist.

14 songs leaked and Kim said the album will have 18 song. We are missing Keep It and Dirty Thoughts (the other 2 are FSN and Coconuts).

Didn't a snippet of Dirty Thoughts leak along the Confessions, Deeper and Sex Talk snippets? Why didn't the song leak?
