That's sad.

The album is cute, there's a few duds but overall I enjoy it as a silly pop album to just vibe to. Revelations is amazing 

it makes sense why the label wasn't satisfied. it's full of bops, but everything sounds way too similar like literally every song has the same drum pattern.

I’m confused. So is she in limbo? Didn’t she say she had a plan/release a week ago

If this is disheartening to her and she's sitting on TOTL3, why not release that to give her official releases a bit more life. Even if that's sub-par compared to vol 1 & 2, her fan base lives for her halloween music so Republic shouldn't be put off. Do an Era 1 re-release thing and release all 3 parts on vinyl, since they'll sell really well and put this leak behind you and go to the studio with a new team and work towards a 2023 release.

 

I do feel bad for her and all, but there really is a reason her label were withdrawing her from putting this out. A major label debut needs to seem profitable and this wouldn't have been. It's sad but onwards and upwards.

She only has to WISH she ends up in a Charli situation, considering how after Vroom Vroom (with a lot of patience) the quality of her music SKYROCKETED.

TMLAS and TG were confirmed for the album before being replaced by Treat Me Like a Hoe and Dirty Things.

 

I personally think all sIut pop adjacent songs should've stayed away from this album because they stick out like a sore thumb

Treat Me Like a Hoe i added to Slvt Pop and if that Dirty Things song is anything like that i'll be adding to the EP too (that's becoming an album at this point )

In the end, I listened to this and I think that, while being FULL of bops that I'll endlessly play, it ultimately sounds like a collection of nice b-sides that belong to what should be a much better record. I'm thinking of a record like Future Nostalgia, where most of the tracks from this album would literally pale compared to even the album tracks from Dua's record, especially when it comes to the production, that feels very homogenic but also quite flat at the same time. There's not much flavour in it, they sound like Dr. Puke took probably 4-5 minutes of his miserable life and the album was made.

 

I'm a bit disappointed in songs like Something About You or Revelations: I was anticipating them A LOT, but in the end the little snippets we got were basically the whole thing the tracks had to offer, the guiter outro of Revelations sounds incredibly cheap and the whole song feels like it's missing at least a couple of drum patterns, as if they literally forgot to add them.

 

In the end, it feels like the album is torn between a tame version of Future Nostalgia or the illusion that a Teenage Dream in 2022 could still sound current. I think it would have been fine had they let her release a couple of EPs (one in the winter, one in the summer) just to introduce her as a signed artist.

Something like this would have kept her fanbase fed while trying to create a new one with some kind of promo, without the pressure of having to release a full album and the label having way less expectations ('cause I still think, regardless of the material she recorded, the HUGE expectations of the label was what really ruined the era for her). She could have had a trilogy of EPs (an 80s euro one, a summer one and **** Pop). I mean, I still think that, even with an overall subpar material from her, they could have done way better in managing this whole era.

 

EDIT: and what makes me mad is that, as subpar as the songs are compared to what she did in the past, it's quite evident that she's still THAT b***h when it comes to making pure pop music. It's just that for whatever reason this time they decided to follow a few trends here and there. It worked for Clarity with the trap beats and delivery, but this time it's as if her and her team were lacking a clear focus on what to actually do, which is hopefully what she's doing in these new sessions she's having with different producers.
