“Solid” just grew on me, what a cute lil

86 on MC with 11 reviews is amazing, this record will definitely make the end-year-best-album lists for sure.

Finally listened and at this point I think it's safe to say they've got their formula locked and solid. That said I'm personally not a fan of them pursuing more strummy guitar stuff. It was a nice novelty back with Taken, but I hated Silk Chiffon and Kind of Girl. This is the first time they've released an album where i find myself skipping tracks on. 

Anyway this is cute and I'll probably revisit it, but Saves The World is still their crowning achievement for me.

i love the experimentation on this but every single song on Saves The World sounds like a genuine classic and was them giving us an album full of their perfect pop formula with enough variation to keep it interesting but really showcasing their strengths.

 

Obviously this is a great body of work (and What I Want is god tier) but this is def a step below Saves The World for me bc that album is truly flawless start to finish and this is a bit all over the place.

Saves the World was just... so good. This feels lowkey reductive by comparison.

Home By Now might be this decade's Dancing on my own   this amount of emotional damage should not be possible from a dancefloor anthem

their debut and sophomore had more magic and were more interesting tbh  some of these tracks just fall flat especially because some of the instrumentals are so similar on some tracks

NM: I think everything still felt pretty nascent. We had “Solid,” “Handle Me,” “No Idea,” “Silk,” and “What I Want,” so it was half-written. Then “Kind of Girl” came into the picture, and we all gravitated towards it so strongly. It just felt like such a tender and special moment that we activated pretty quickly to work on it. NM: Yeah. I think we had had some conversations like, yearning for a few sensitive moments on the album. All the songs that we had were pretty big energy songs and very confident, self-assured songs. It’s not to say that “Kind of Girl” isn’t that — I think it is, it’s just a different perspective. That one came at what will retrospectively feel like a pretty pivotal point for us. We wanted a kind of Swiftian, middle-of-the-album, heart-wrenching track. That kind of track-five moment.

 

It is track five on the album!

 

NM: It is, and that’s on purpose, for sure.

Not them outright calling Kind of Girl a Swiftian track five.

This album is much better than save the world tbh. More interesting textures/instrumentals and better lyrics. 
 

 

saves the world is amazing, and this is even more amazing. there are some songs on their debut (promise and if u love me now specifically) that i don’t really like but in general those felt more like teething problems i think. but anyways muna are truly one of the most exciting and interesting bands out there at the moment. who is making songs as consistently terrific like number one fan, stayaway, what i want, and anything but me? i know a lot of people like to say those are just normal synthpop songs but…they really aren’t to me. everything is done with such heart and artistry i’m just so obsessed with these legends!

 

think my top three is: what i want, solid, runner’s high - but genuinely it’s very hard to narrow it down. so excited for where they go next and will do everything in my power to support them!

been on repeat all week. SO good.

 

idk why but 'Solid' feels like the 'Hands Off' of this record? (in a good way)

this needs a deluxe version. 11 songs is just not cutting it especially when the last two are a snore fest

album made me stan and watch all their interviews they ever made lmao.

 

album is absolutely flawless, i am so impressed they are doing everything themselves. are you JOKING!! phoebe is absolute genius by taking them under her umbrella.

I also think runner's high is a masterpiece and the fact they can touch so many different 'genres' and angles and still have 'cohesive' and clear message on the album is so mind blowing to me. i am literally in love with them. and think they need to be BIGGER. 

 

favorite songs: all of them, but ive been sharing RUNNER'S HIGH, KIND OF A GIRL, WHAT I WANT, HANDLE ME and ANYTHING BUT ME the most.

worst songs: didnt happen

 

WHAT I WANT video is so good 

 

everyone i shared them too were all started stanning too and they are all different demographic people.

It’s so rare that an album has songs as strong as What I Want, Runner’s High, Home By Now, No Idea, Solid, and Shooting Star consuming over half the tracklist…
