The SXSW interview was a great interview because it is her reflection of how 2013 went for her. In a lot of ways she reclaimed AP during the SXSW performance. She wanted to end the era on a positive note and then move on to C2C.

 

I was not a stan yet during AP. So I’m not really sure what the discourse was here. But anyone who watches interviews from that time can tell that something is wrong 

I think her ego took a big hit after Roar vs Applause and it changed the outcome of the era. Troy had a plan to revive the era, and Gaga became paranoid they were using her for money so fired her management. She just had to trust in the professionals

I think there will be, and fully expect it to be a Jazz musical. Todd Phillips (the director) has noted Francis Ford Coppola's One From The Heart musical film as inspiration for Joker 2.

It can always still be panned but there is no way it's flopping. There's too much hype and there won't be much competition next year. If anything, it might "flop" in the sense that it doesn't meet the first Joker's gross, but that's not real flopping.

 

I agree it's not worth staking so much on, though. Is a Best Actress Oscar really worth sacrificing creative and artistic potential for her career in a post-Covid era where she could have regular roll-outs again?

HOG $150 million 

 

The first Joker made 1 billion. Even if JFAD made half as much, it still out grossed ASIB and would be a success for Gaga 

 

The reviews will probably be very mixed, like the first Joker movie. Critics will be split on the musical aspects. But Gaga will be praised for her acting abilities and holding her own with Joaquin. Some will say that she out performed Joaquin which will be an awesome compliment since Joaquin won a BA Oscar for this exact role.

if HOG was able to gross $150M+ in the midst of the pandemic primarily off Gár’s carrying the entire film, then I’m not that worried about JFAD especially also the fact its not part of that loser tainted DCEU world. Also iirc Europeans loved the first one more than US

Anything less than 600M for J:FAD would be seen as flop.

 

Hollywood is about living up to hype and profit rather than total gross.
