There would be no SuperBowl, no Coachella, no A Star Is Born, no Shallow, no ARUTW, no acclaim, no Best Actress nom, no Oscar, no Grammys, no global successful era, no streaming elixir, no smash acclaimed tours, etc ...without Joanne. The disrespect has to stop now.

I'm obviously not crediting everything to Joanna, and even as a stan I do acknowledge that the album is still arguably her least successful record numbers wise. But you all cannot deny that it was essential for Gaga's rebranding. It took a lot of calculation, devotion and hard work to lead that organized, concerted image rebranding and readjustment post-ARTPOP leading up to Joanne --> ASIB -> career rebeak. She still came out of that era with a #1 album, a Top 5 hit and signature ballad for her (her first), an acclaimed halftime show, and a successful tour cementing her touring legend status.

 

Whether you love the album or not is another topic, but factz are factz. If she came back with a "weirdGa" album post-2014 she would literally be missing the Hot 100 and debuting with less numbers than Smile and High Road.

This is all true. All of it. However, the album could’ve and should’ve been much much better with the themes and sound she was trying to explore. Anyway, I’m glad it happened. I enjoyed it for what it was back in 2016 and I really liked the tour.

i'm honestly fine waiting as long as it takes if it means we'll get a proper era that she clearly is passionate about. would way rather that than her forcing out half-assed albums every 2/3 years just to keep up

Yeah the album definitely has its flaws and feels middle-of-the-road-y. There are some things I wish I could change about the album's direction but I grew to appreciate it and love (most of) it. The era was so fun and we were getting new content every other day.

Yeah but I wasn't really talking from the quality of material perspective but more from an "era" standpoint and how the more years pass, the more established she becomes and (naturally) the less she feels the need to promote, which is why it's kinda sad to think that we might never experience a full fledged era with performances and full single cycle campaigns and other live content like that again

She’s clearly passionate about all of her releases (minus DOC ). She never released a half-assed album. And as @Marry Illusion Glory said, the times where she’s hustling, promoting and performing everywhere might be over for good. She’s clearly evoloved from this.

i think in general 'eras' aren't so much a thing anymore, even for the new MPGs
