There would be no SuperBowl, no Coachella, no A Star Is Born, no Shallow, no ARUTW, no acclaim, no Best Actress nom, no Oscar, no Grammys, no global successful era, no streaming elixir, no smash acclaimed tours, etc ...without Joanne. The disrespect has to stop now. :coffee2:

It’s clear to see she far catapulted her star power with things far far away from what gays wanted and thus reached new heights and this caused… Joanneaphobia?

I never got the Joanne hate, cause even if the album is not EDM, it's still Gaga at her core, even her outfits still had some Gaga edge, of course nothing weird weird like ARTPOP era but gosh she was more fun to be around during Joanne circa, despite the fibromyalgia flare

the album is really not bad, yes it could have been MORE but I think Interscope wasn't gonna let her go full country/folk like that hence why they brought in bloodpop to modernize it. The tour was amazing, it gave her gigs that she would have never had with another weird pop album, she literally would be where Katy, Britney and Ke$ha are... she needed the rebrand, and she was smart enough to do so

You realize not loving Joanne doesn't mean someone wants an EDM album? lol like Joanne isn't great because it's half baked, not fully commited to the idea, and suffers from an overall lack of direction.  If she were fully committed to a stripped back sound like some of it is the album as a whole could have been fantastic

this. i would def be here for a stripped back era from Gar but it has to actually be good this time

I think it's much more a concern to have from Interscope

Mark and Gaga both said they worked together on Joanne and it was more raw but Interscope called Bloodpop in to bring some modern pop to it and not be a total 180 from her past releases which ended up creating a half baked concept/sound

and I think the OG LG6 was gonna be much more acoustic driven before they scrapped everything again and they pushed the "everyone wants pop EDM gaga return" and ended up toning down the house sound of Chromatica to make it more electropop

Reality and facts :gaycat2:

I'm obviously not crediting everything to Joanna, and even as a stan I do acknowledge that the album is still arguably her least successful record numbers wise. But you all cannot deny that it was essential for Gaga's rebranding. It took a lot of calculation, devotion and hard work to lead that organized, concerted image rebranding and readjustment post-ARTPOP leading up to Joanne --> ASIB -> career rebeak. She still came out of that era with a #1 album, a Top 5 hit and signature ballad for her (her first), an acclaimed halftime show, and a successful tour cementing her touring legend status.

Whether you love the album or not is another topic, but factz are factz. If she came back with a "weirdGa" album post-2014 she would literally be missing the Hot 100 and debuting with less numbers than Smile and High Road.

It’s true. Joanne was the GP reset that people needed.

You don't have to be promoting and performing everywhere to put out a SOLID album.  Both her last releases are good, but not great, and are half filled with interesting ideas she doesn't commit enough to really make something special & interesting the way she has before and easily could. If getting a new album soon means it's on the quality level of Joanne & Chromatica I'd rather a long wait where music isn't just one piece of a larger puzzle, there's a reason only her older tracks are taking off

nnnnn I'm not into this historic revision of Godmatica like it was some half-baked album that the base has had just because the era was cannibalized by covid.

Chromatica was a great, solid album and is literally her most acclaimed studio album to date. History will look back at it as a good era for Gaga.

Precisely. :giraffe:

It's a GOOD dance album, not even close to the best of that year and not nearly as interesting or inventive as it easily could have been.

using metacritic is tricky

when albums such as Rare are getting as much acclaim as a Gaga album, you kinda need to worry

there's something called poptism that occured and clearly helped Chromatica compared to let's say Born This Way and TFM

hell I think with poptism, Joanne and ARTPOP would have been in the 70s

Joanne is a fun album that doesn't take itself too seriously (except for Gar's fake Joanne tears and cringe story). It's full of bops except for the horrible Come To Mama.

Joanne is literally top 3 in Gar's discography but y'all ain't ready for that conversation :giraffe:

I don't think all of it is revisionism tbh though? I personally had issues with the album after the first listen and I still stand by my opinion that the execution fell flat and didn't live up to the great concept/direction they were going for. I also think the album served some fantastic visuals (the album photoshoot, i-D and Billboard photoshoots, 911 music video, the entire tour) and some amazing career highlights (Replay, 911, Rain On Me, Babylon). Of course these are just my personal thoughts at the end of the day.

And re: the acclaim, it's not really fair to compare it to The Fame Monster/Born This Way because those were released during a time where only indie records and rock bands got universal acclaim. Chromatica came out during the era of Poptimism where everyone and their mothers are getting 70s/80s scores. The album ended the year at #41 on albumoftheyear.org

I do believe that "eras", visuals, performances, interviews, etc are a big factor in how the work is perceived and they can influence people's reception of the music/maybe elevate it a little, but we barely had that with Chromatica. Thank god for her best tour though. :toofunny2:

BloodPop mentioned the JWT date when he played her the SL demo and it's Nov 2017. She was also working with DJWS prior.

I dont think LG6 was ever gonna be acoustic driven.

Where are you getting this from? lol. Don't think this is true at all considering early cuts like Enigma and Babylon. It was always meant to be a house/EDM sound. They did definitely make it more electropop than house in the end, though, and Interscope definitely forced them to keep each song short.

whew Judas went the **** off on tiktok imagine making an album with that many classics :jonny5:

My issue with Chromatica will always be with its production and the way she pandered to streaming by releasing 2 minute songs and collabing with people for a quick hit (not that she capitalized on sour candy's hit potential but that's another story lol). Also, the production in some of the choruses on this album are the absolute worst of her entire career imo.

Ultimately, I don't want another album where she's miserable and being dragged to the studio. She makes her best work when she's inspired and confident in her artistry.

I'm a Chromatica proponent but I do believe Gaga should stop playing the pop game because her best success has been born out of doing the opposite.

Bloody Mary is a living, breathing example of this. Only she could send a song like that to radio after a viral streak.

I need 5-6 minute songs again like how they were on Born This Way. Stretched, layered, imaginative.

LG7 is kind of exciting for her because she doesn't really owe anyone anything. She doesn't have to prove pop success nor does she have to placate to a new generation of listeners.

She took no risk with Chromatica, so there were no big payoff as well

At least Joanne had Perfect Illusion

Both are bottom of her discography anyway
