It's one of my least favs because of the things you said. While I like a generic bop from time to time it reminded me of something Madonna has done in the later parts of her career like Give Me All Your Love or whatever and it was like are we really already speed running to that point of our career.. I felt there was a good song in there somewhere but it ended up just being noise.. I don't even think the song sounds good when she does the jazz version of it. But yeah we prob did too much since critics praised it, which is still surprising to me but also thank god for ROM and the rest of the album while generic at times it didn't feel so irreverent

I think this really hits the nail on it's head. Luckily things turned out fine but during and post-Chromatica it started to seem like Gaga was going to start putting out generic stuff for the rest of her career and I was panicking.

How? What's so generic about Chromatica besides the production? Chromatica has some great songs in it. Everything else she did during Chromatica wasn't generic at all too. VMA performance with multiple great outfits is very cool, the photoshoots during the era are also creative, 911 music video is career highlight, even for Hold My Turd she served some interesting looks, the tour has amazing production and the fits are so great besides the boxed stage. You may say she didn't do much during that era compares to her other eras, but her actual outputs are not bad at all, it's way much better than Joanne. So I don't get where did that come from.

Chromatica has some great songs and I quite liked ROM MV but up until 911 MV (huge highlight in her videog) it felt like she was trying to be what people expected her to be. That and the absolute silence and lack of excitement from her worried me a lot that she might've lost her passion. Then we got jazz adds another add movie, next make-up pallette. I think it was understandeable to feel that way, I'd argue she lost a lot of fans during that period but hopefully regained most of them with Mayhem.

The actual song the base needs to take its heel off of is Hold My Hand, whose recurrents and success are ironically now a potential benchmark of success for TDD to aim for in the long run
