You are thinking way too deep into this. THIS tour will indeed be iconic for actually doing something completely different and not doing the regular same looks for every show. She was definitely bored with that and just wants to play with fashion. Nothing as deep as you suggest about her wanting to be painted as a fashion icon. Plss

It upsets me when I see her brand not handled well.

She should just hire me and be done with it

I think it's clear based on the fact that Beyoncé was filming BREAK MY SOUL after the song was released that she intended it to be consumed as music-only first, and that part of the reason for this would be to have people experience/relate to the music not the visuals which she has really not done for a lead single since 2011 (Drunk in Love, Formation, APESHIT, Spirit/BIGGER, all debuting alongside videos).

Thus, it would seem that she was holding the same strategy for the rest of the music, as well as a reason why even when she could have released BREAK MY SOUL or CUFF IT she chose not to, in order to further this "music-first" experience that actually harkens back to the way people consumed and related to music in the 1970s/early 1980s, which this album majorly draws upon. This "renaissance" of experience seems partially integral to the project, and part of the amazing factor to its success: people really enjoy the MUSIC without the trappings of pop marketing, without being "sold" it through expensive videos, or being given choreography to replicate, etc.

And don't you think it's going to be SO exciting when you finally do see, after year(s) [lol], CUFF IT's music video? It'll have the effect of some long-lost piece of an iconic artwork that is now discovered and available to the masses. I find it iconic, exciting, and kind of brilliant.

The constant attempts at trying to praise this strategy are getting tired. It’s okay to admit she was and is wrong for how she decided to not release visuals. She has clearly not learned from black is king and remains absolutely stuck in her ways.

The constant deriding of her strategy is getting tired. It's okay to admit she is right for how she decides to release her own visuals. She has clearly learnt from Black is King [that visuals released at a later date can boost an album] and remains stuck in doing things her ways [not what fans or the public thinks is best].

But actually it's not an attempt to "praise" the strategy, it simply is praising it. Part of what I love about Beyoncé post-2012 is she threw the rulebook out and is doing things her way, and often it doesn't make sense, often it limits her success, but always it seems to point to her being an artist unafraid to fail, so long as her creative vision is maintained. And so often her strategies are inspiring and impactful. Why am I not going to praise a part of her I actually stan? In a Beyoncé base of all places?

Idk if it has been said so gonna say it again sry. The outfit posts are tired. They are beyond tired.

If she wants iconic “lewks” from this tour she should not be changing every night and assaulting our feeds with completely over the top ensembles that look like they each cost $20 million . Madonna’s cone bra, whatever MJ wore, it was consistent through their tours and the image became embedded. And notice the outfits weren’t all that elaborate….

Her team is way too invested in the “fashun” when there are million other things fans care about

Child hush!

RWT is THEE most fashionable tour ever  and that alone makes it iconic, not following what’s already been done sticking to the same outfits day by day. You know absolutely nothing about fashion.
you don’t have millions of fans  around the dress up in chrome outfits or stores/online stores selling chrome/silver theme outfits and cowboy hats, fans etc sweetie that’s a fashion icon. And that’s without visuals.

100% agree. The release schedule is not great for the fans.

The only justification that works or makes a lick of sense is that she wants to give this era legs. And releasing the visuals as its own production apart from the music will breath new life into the album. Similar to how the tour gave Cozy and Energy renewed appreciation.

One way to think about it is as Renaissance (Beyoncé’s Version). A re-imagining of what each song means to HER after we’ve had a chance to consume it for ourselves.

She was filming a month (maybe more) before BMS' release, I remember our shock when Freedia said they were filming a week after the songs release (I thought she was part of other songs). This "She wants us to focus on the music first" is just fiction, she teased VISUALS since the beginning, even before the infamous trailer she was posting snippets on instagram. Nothing she has ever said or posted made us think otherwise until a year later when she said "you are the visuals"

I dont see how you can praise something that never happened, and what DID happen has been sad :giraffe:

Honerable mentions: All Night/Halo/That's Why You're Beautiful

Halo was legit a fav back in 2008, I just got tired of it + the OG production aged. She'd have a 2billion song by now if she released an accoustic version on streaming.

I guess we have to agree to disagree and you are allowed to have your unpopular opinion since you are as much of a bey stan as the rest of us. It’s clear that there are apparently some people here who do not mind her antics. :)

I dont consider XO a ballad but I just remembered that Heaven (Live from the Mrs Carter Show) deserves a spot in my top5.

She has way too many amazing ballads for her to just sing 4 of them. And yes I will never stop complaining about this

I will continue to praise the aspects of Beyoncé's strategies that I love, especially if all the discourse around it is complaints.

Whether or not you agree with, or enjoyed every choice she's made, probably every choice since 2012 has been important in solidifying her legend status, or at least centering who she is as an artist

  1. ST surprise release, visual album: she thought it would flop, she did it anyway, it was huge, it changed pop
  2. Formation/Black Pride/Super Bowl/Lemonade: she risked a lot of her pop success by going this route, and she didn't let up the entire era, and she didn't just go there for one era, she basically is still on it with RENAISSNACE being an ode to Black queerness.
  3. Everything is Love: no one wanted it, she did it anyway, and despite what people say it's actually a pretty solid lil album, again she could have followed up Lemonade with some huge pop era but she chose a rap album under a new name. She wasn't coming for the charts and I love that about her.
  4. Homecoming/Coachella: Once more she went against the grain and did it her way, delivering an HBCU-inspired concert at Coachella
  5. The Gift/Black is King: She really didn't have to make a concept album for The Lion King, but she did so anyway and put the focus on Africa, and then released her most visually ambitious visual album to date. For a flop album. For fun. Because she wanted to.
  6. RENAISSANCE: for someone keen on surprising fans/the public, the most surprising thing she could do was NOT release visuals, and that she has, along with putting the focus back on music, her central artform.

I can't pick a favorite ballad, it changes everyday. But could you imagine if she made Dance For You stripped down :jonny:

The day before the album was even out Parkwood released this press release:

"The originator of the visual album format, and the preeminent visual artist, decided to lead without visuals giving fans the opportunity to be limitless in their expansive listening journey.   It is a chance again to be listeners and not viewers, while taking in every gem of the pristine production.   While "Break My Soul," the first single, arrived with a minimal lyric video, the release of RENAISSANCE sans visuals is another culture-shifting move from the artist who has defined an era with reinvention."

Not sure if you meant they should have only said that the visuals would come later, or that they didn't, but in that press release they do say: "the visuals are scheduled for a later date".

Anyway, there's definitely pretence in how they put it but nothing they said is a lie.

Yeah, I meant they could've just said "Visuals to come at a later date." But that is admittedly a nitpick. No one outside of the fanbase remembers that statement anyway.

Me listening to Rather Die Young (studio version) vs. Me listening to Rather Die Young at the Renaissance World Tour
