My date is coming up (so I'm open to having a change of heart come the show), but I really agree with this. 

 

I think a lot of the Hive are missing that Bey hasn't just switched out dancers, it's her whole choreo team (en masse) that are new. There are a few (as in literally a few) that are still there for continuity (e.g. Chris Grant), but a lot of the "usual" faces aren't in the mix for a few reasons (IYKYK).

 

She's working a lot with Fatima and her crew. 

 

Fatima is hella respected and I "like" what they've collectively come up with but I want to love it. 

 

With Bey, there's a specific "bangy" through-line that feels missing in the current choreo. I feel like Bey is Bey and will always deliver, but between her choreo and dancers, there was always an air of "this is for the girls and gworlz to replicate" that feels missing. The "everybody mad" moments that (if you realize) are timed for social media perfectly. 

 

With these new dancers and choreo, aspects of it feel like dancing for dancing sake. No more or different to a generic Pop girl show. A dancing cus the music is fast and calls for it tea. 

 

The upside is that very few people will actually care, but as a Hive member who pays a lot of attention to the intricacies of Beyonce's...everything...I'm hopeful we eventually get a happy medium.

Here's the thing, though. I doubt she's gonna show us "her" in these moments. These are probably easter eggs. 

 

On the upside, it's giving her most cinematic yet with visual nods to what we've seen across her visual output over the last decade. The upgraded version. 

 

HOWEVER...

 

It's not lost on me that much of what we've seen of HER in these visual snippets has seen her skew more "sun goddess" and center of the scene while the action happens "around" her. I'm not for that...at least not at this early season of her latter career. I want my Bey dancing and going ham. Even if it's for a few key videos. Think what Already and My Power were to BIK at large. 

 

Again, it's wholly plausible that she's purposefully holding back the "goodies" til she's ready to serve, but just my topline thoughts thus far.

The choreo is… different. It’s finally something new, and overall it’s just.. okay. The first half of Alien Superstar is not it though. They have her doing robot dances and standing like 🧍🏽‍♀️in a circle. For a song like that, I want more drama… give me something that doesn’t rely on aerial cameras. And it’s not like choreo has to be intense, look at Apeshit and how in sync, fluid everything looked. We’re just used to the formation, precision and clean (also bc it’s all female and they’re the same stature as Bey). And I thought there would be more use of the circle for choreo, they don’t use much of it in a creative way besides AUIYM.  

I get what y’all are saying with the choreo not being as clean but she looks like she’s having more fun and I think everyone in the crowd (except the Swedish ppl lmfao) is feeling it too. This looks like her most fun show to me

But this is a pretty plausible interpretation. Not saying this is what Beyoncé meant, but the song itself uses double entendres aligning sexuality and drug use/addiction so this is actually pretty well-reasoned in that regard.

Oh for sure it means that first and foremost. I'm just saying... just like she uses "crack" in the song to mean both the drug and her body (a sexual reference), this too could be another instance of that.
