Time for the Swifties to launch a virtual street team and reach out to the unconverted masses to spread the gospel again

fr tho, i knew ATRL had gone deaf when they started hyping up olivia and tate :biblio:

The girls coming for Meghan when everything up there, other than Carly, is either trash or fash-adjacent. Pass on 2015 for me!

And 2005... what kinda Mad Libs line up? Madonna & Mariah, MIA & Fiona Apple, Keyshia Cole?? I know you're just drawing names out of a hat for this.

Has anyone even thought about that Courtney album at all since 2015? :suburban:

We COULD do TWO 2010 MAKES THE WOMAN rates:

Animal v. Teenage Dream v. Loud v. Pink Friday v. Cannibal

The ArchAndroid v. Bionic v. Aphrodite v. Speak Now v. Body Talk (I'd actually vote in this one!)

The split makes sense - but nix Aphrodite (these are all women a generation after her) and add the aforementioned Flesh Tone instead.

Bionic... I mean, I don't know if it really belongs but I don't know where else you'd put ha. :rip: Maybe we need to do a lovable, classic flopstars rate with her and some other iconic flop albums. GOOD flop albums. Not like... Britney Jean or 143.

I've been doing my best to try and forget it, actually!

The Courtney album is a forgotten tune-yards situation but Pedestrian at Best is an 11

(And so is Kill v Maim)

Maybe Vulnicura would work instead of Courtney? even Wolf Alice or CHVRCHES would be better for something indie

Technically yes, since This Was 2015 happened in 2016

See, this is why the Swifties are losing ATRL. The attitude of superiority and unwillingness to engage with any music that's not Taylor.

Olivia is great, by the way. "Bad Idea Right?" washes anything on The Tortured Poets Department or Midnights.

If I can make a totally non-critical observation! I think Miss Acey likes to pair things up for variety's sake, older artists with young ones, debut albums up against comeback records, genres being crossed etc... And I don't think that's a bad thing per se! I just think that sort of thing works better for UOG rates where the variety is huge and we only have a three or four songs from each lady to go through.

I think that... when rating full albums together, there might need to be a little more 'focus' on a specific sort of aim or audience. That's all I'm saying!

The Sleater-Kinney album being the TTPD of the rate

Except in SK's case it was undeserved :gaycat6:

Keep Aphrodite, and let Taylor out (she's the young one on this all-star team) out; Kelis in. Robyn/Kylie/Legend X/Kelis/Janelle FEELS more appropriate, doesn't it?

Yes, I appreciate seeing you in rates. But you are unfortunately not the norm.

back when taylor wasn't overhated by flops on ATRL :clap3: (but how did Mean of all songs make the top 10??)

I was going to say that it was proof ATRL has always been weirdly biased against her because what do you mean Last Kiss and Dear John weren't even in the top 25? :deadbanana2:

I saw a post from myself on page 2 or 3 saying I might participate but I don't think I did in the end. :rip:

actually v funny to me (tho i entirely understand it from an american perspective) to see kylie in there, in the uk she's the most classically mainstream of mainstream legacy pop artists, only robbie shades her out maybe

i have shown my loyalty to taylor in the current rate, above and beyond etc etc, but i think their elevation of the folkmore era as the pinnacle of music to the detriment even of half her own catalogue is something that drives me up the wall (tho whether this is worse than the girls out on wider social media proclaiming TTPD her best yet apart from all the others i am not clear on)

otoh i don't feel like posting 'is taylor flopping' threads every three days is a point to rally around for anyone sane lol

Points heard! I do like to give a comprehensive view - things don't exist in a vacuum! Also, sometimes, there are albums I just don't want to listen to lol.

2015 DOES present a problem; that's why Supa combined Emotion: Side B and 25 into a 2016 rate, because there were so few options!

Does this work?

Grimes v. Carly Rae v. Adele v.

We're struggling here. if you object to Meghan, you'd more than likely reject Fifth Harmony or Little Mix as well! It was a dry town that year. Maybe Jazmine? Cut it down to four albums without going 'too indie?'

a solution does suggest itself here (finding another trashy pop album to go along with title, get weird and reflection)

given that adele doesn't necessarily fit with the other two, maybe the thing to do is to make it broader overall and go conspicuously indie with the fourth choice? say, bring back joanna newsom

Yeah and it was specifically in the context of "albums that I can't believe I sat myself through but rates were still fun!"

i remember a 2015 songs rate i did back on twitter where courtney barnett had two songs make the quarter finals and i was fuming, ready to storm the barricades, i don't really dislike her so much but the gall of making out they were the best of the year tipped me over the edge
