It's the format where users either submit their own rankings of songs/albums/etc. or rank a given set and points are allocated which make up the list, in contrast to users numerically rating a predetermined list. In that sense, the number of ranks is not fixed (if submission based) and depends on the entries. Similar to the ATRL Grammys but on a smaller scale. The best example I can give is this:

Oh, I’ve never heard it called a rankdown before. I would say keep that in base. Go and ahead launch. I don’t think we’re likely to get overrun with a bunch of similar threads at once.
