What could have saved the Bionic era?

Featured Replies

I'm gonna go ahead and say the long break did not hurt Christina, the hype was there and the proof is NMT getting decent debut peaks, hell even Your Body had initial hype, and even if this wasn't the perfect record it sure had potential to serve a cute top 10 and two more top 20 hits.

The main problem I see, it's No Hit Tonight being released as a lead single, we can clearly see the gp did not care for that song, Your Body has like double the streams even though it was released after the killing of Xtina's career.

I think better single choices could have saved the album, the question is... which songs could have possibly done this...? I see a lot of Elastic Love and Monday Morning praise, also there's some Desnudate fans in this forum but what is the thruth? Bionic for some reason manage to debut on the hot 100 (Don't know why because the song is trash) but maybe as a single it could have gone top 20??

Pick 4 singles and save the era Atrl, I will go with:

Lead: Monday Talent - Imagine a Summery MV and a robot-like Xtina having fun on the beach lol

2nd Single: Vanity (a cute radio edit could do wonders for this song, it is a banger and not talked about enough)

3rd Single: Little Dreamer - Beautiful song

4th Single: You Lost Me - Always a great single but NMT did too much damage.

Nothing.

GP was tired with Xtina at that time and decided to abandon her forever suburban

Releasing it 2 years earlier. Christina thought everyone would wait 4 years for a new era because they did for Stripped. Katy, Taylor & Gaga came through the ranks, Britney was back at the top and people just simply had moved on.

Why are we still talking about this 16 year old album. Lol

Birds of Prey will have longevity as a lead,

2nd Single : I Am

3rd : Lift Me up.

4th : NMT

end of an era

You can say it if you want, but it absolutely did. Bionic completely as it was released with no changes at all would've done significantly better if it came out in 2008 instead of 2010.

She came off of the Back to Basics Tour with a lot of interest in what was coming next. It was a big mistake on her end for the "what's next" to be a greatest hits album instead of a follow up album. Bionic in '08 would've been genuinely fresh, inventive, and new. By 2010, she was already behind the curve.

People at that time just were not willing to wait 4 years for her to come back when they had such a wealth of other options available to them.

Most importantly, give it a gritty, dark feel. Maintain some of the aesthetics of Not Myself Tonight, blending influences from Metropolis, Blade Runner, and German Expressionist cinema to create a dark, gothic, futuristic atmosphere.

1. Prima Donna
2. Vanity
3. Monday Morning
4. Birds of Prey

It was simply already dated on arrival. It needed to come out in 2008, not 2010. The jump in terms of electro pop was astronomical between those 2 years and she led her album campaign with a song that had 2007/2008 written all over it.

It most certainly did just like it's hurting her in 2026. You can't vanish & think ppl will tune in especially when there are other girls doing the same thing some even better.

Her ego got a reality check!

(1) Send "Desnudate," "Vanity," "Not Myself Tonight," "Prima Donna," and "WooHoo" to the Burlesque Soundtrack as bonus tracks alongside distant cousin "Express."

(2) Make "Glam" the lead single. (High-budget "fashion-show" video with Andre-Leon Talley, Anna Wintour, notable designer/models, and Madonna cameos.

(3) Have the original Bionic include the wonky MIA, Ladytron, Switch, Goldfrapp, Sia, and Santigold tracks on the deluxe.

(4) Singles Run:

  1. Glam

  2. You Lost Me

  3. I Hate Boys

  4. Elastic Love

  5. Bobblehead

even if some of these songs are cult classics none of them sound like hits and they all sound pretty dated now. compare to what other pop girls were doing in 2010 and the difference is clear. plus it just wasnt what people wanted from her. ca, stripper and b2b all had a r&b tilt to them. even if they were all different there was some amount of through line. bionic just didnt suit her or the image she had.

Having people realize that the Not Myself Tonight MV was an homage to THE Madonna, not a Gaga "copy" would have given her a better discourse.

Releasing You Lost Me digitally when she performed it on American Idol.

Desnudate and I Am as follow up singles

Not Myself Tonight debuted at #23 on the hot 100, almost matching Ain't No Other Man debut week (#19) the hype was clearly there, even after the huge Bionic fiasco, Your Body sold even more digital copies than Not Myself Tonight on debut and has double the streams... She still had hype back then.

Not Myself Tonight is clearly disliked by the GP, if the song was decent enought it would have managed a cute top 15 peak even if radio fulled.

I always had a soft spot for Glam it is a cute bop, I am not sure about single material, it is not very relatable but still very cute.

Girl, that Bobblehead song is literally the worst song I have ever heard

"Glam" was everything she was trying to do: approachable, breezy pop crossover melodically, chunky Urban production, buzzing synths to tie in with the left-feld sound of the rest of the remaining album, and a zesty, 90s vibe with the big dance vocals in the bridge. It was the most mature uptempo she had on the project.

Re: Bobblehead.... I said what you said (about "LoveGame" when it came out) and Gaga got a top 10 hit from it. I think it could've become an earworm. To this day Bobblehead sounds like the perfect, inescapable Target commercial. I envisioned a cheerleading video with a full marching band, stunts, bullhorns, and a white video set (like "Single Ladies").

Nothing. Pretty much served its purpose and there's nothing about that album that would've made the era last longer than it did.

NMT still makes the most sense as the lead though. It's a decent song, easily the most commercial from the album, and very much of its time. Your favorite song =/= single material.
