every generation thinks they are the end of history. more great and successful artists will come and break the records our biggest stars have set. its not like people in the future will stop caring abt music or celebrities or pop culture.

I don't actively wish harm on him or anyone but i never really understood why people feel the need to act oh so concerned or act like we need to care about horrible people as soon as they are ill or dead. If Charlie Kirks death could get memed to death then why is this automatically so serious and concering? there are people in your real life communities who go through the same and worse everyday and none of you stop to care about or feel sorry for them. At the end of the day he made a career of bullying, sexually harassing and stalking women and children - including those who themselves had mental health issues that he only mocked and harassed them for. As others have said, if a female celebrity had gone through this he would have mocked her mercilessly and made money from it too. I'll keep my sympathies for people who deserve it.

witness was obviously her biggest mistake. granted, most pop stars have a pretty short shelf life and its likely she was destined for a downward spiral anyway. however i feel like there was still interest when she released chained to the rhythm and things could have worked better if she hadnt turned herself into a joke with bad pretentious music, a terrible new look and an inability to understand the line between playful to full clown.

honestly i could never really get into madonna. she has plenty of great songs but most of her albums are hit/miss and full of filler to me. i think true blue has like 2 listenable songs. i feel similarly about music, like a virgin and erotica. i do love ray of light and bedtime stories though.

I think its easy for us to overestimate the gps knowledge about singers. I've met people who will confidently say a beyonce song was sung by whitney houston. it doesnt mean that much.

even if some of these songs are cult classics none of them sound like hits and they all sound pretty dated now. compare to what other pop girls were doing in 2010 and the difference is clear. plus it just wasnt what people wanted from her. ca, stripper and b2b all had a r&b tilt to them. even if they were all different there was some amount of through line. bionic just didnt suit her or the image she had.

I think a lot of you are misunderstanding what people are saying when they talk about the negative impact that having such a high profile celebrity being so thin has. People are not saying its a "moral failing" or that its her job to raise anyones kids. Thats a very shallow interpretation. At the end of the day we are a social species and cultural norms matter. Big celebrities have a lot of power to influence what is normalised or encouraged whether they want to or not. It doesnt mean shes being malicious or intentional. People who are mentally ill can influence other peoples mental health problems and make them worse. Its the same with suicides and self harm. Seeing them in the media and around you encourages copy cats. Its a well documented phenomenon. It doesnt mean those people are evil, but we should be able to express concern abt how it can spread or how others can be influenced.

I love ari and its not meant to be a drag, it does reflect a horrible culture of promoting deadly, dangerous and dehumanising body standards on women to the point where they will literally starve themselves to death. i dont think its fair to blame ariana for this, she is clearly ill and struggling, but the fact that she is so famous and looked up to does promote and normalise dangerously thin body types fot women. its hard because celebrities are real people and these sorts of comments can be damaging to ariana, but celebrities are also public figures that both embody and further social norms and problems and we need to be able to name and discuss these problems and ariana is unfortunately a prime and relevant example. overall its just horrible and messy.

I think we need to be less accepting of the concept of a music critic in the first place. Most of them are just random people. How many of them have actually studied music or have real backgrounds in music and have actual expertise vs how many of them are maybe journalists and maybe just some guy? Unless they have some sort of credientials I dont see why we even think their opinion matters more than any other random poster on the internet. Sometimes good and bad reviews dont reflect cultural trends, they just reflect the opinions of a small group of random people on the internet.

I agree it was largely hated because of the moment in her career she released it. Its not as good as butterfly but its overall better than rainbow. It also doesnt have the same vocal gymnastics people expect from Mariah but id say its top middle tier in her discography

my only real complaint is that its too short. both in terms of number of songs and many of the songs themselves. i dont think its gonna end up being my fave of hers but it was good and i enjoyed every song.

this website is so weird and xenophobic about bts and kpop. you dont have to like it but the sheer amount of malice disrespect and disregard most of this site has for an entire country is weird. they are making a pretty fair point. why are they making an "asian" category? it lumps multiple languages together and also glosses over that "kpop" (or jpop or cpop) can be any genre and that hip hop, rap, dance, pop, r&b etc are all classified as "kpop" and shoved aside into the asian category. its needlessly segregated and marginalised.
