Does "ugly privilege" exist?

Featured Replies

Are there situations where being less conventionally attractive actually comes with advantages? For example, I've seen people argue that attractive women are sometimes excluded or not taken seriously in workplaces because of jealousy, stereotypes, or unwanted attention.

i think that's not the case for women, they are still harrassed despite being considered convetionally "ugly"

Ugly couples actually are happier in relationships than pretty couples

Nobody expects me to have a boyfriend so they don't even ask. I can be single without making up any excuses!

Ok... 🫪????

When you're not hot you tend to make great art whereas hot people are lazy and rely on their sexyness to sell.

Are you actually 12 years old thinking of this up deadbanana4 such an immature way of looking at the world.

Being taken seriously.

Artists who are good-looking are often accused of pretending to write their own music or at least heavily using ghostwriters/teams

Nobody has any problem believing that Imogen Heap, Tove Lo & Florence Welch write their own music

People would also be more likely to believe that Ed Sheeran writes his music versus Justin Bieber too

OT: no, the terms of this stuff are set up for women to fail. you see it a lot in pop music discourse, even the most objectively hotgirl pop stars have people calling them ugly anyway, the one's who are less so really get it in the neck, it's rare for them to be taken as seriously as they deserve

No imho

To me, all the ones mentioned so far sounds like "you're not pretty, but at least you're smart tho!"

Ain't no way that is ever a privilege, it's a pity than anything. It's a one big cope.

The concept of pretty privilege it self is the unearned social, economic, and professional advantages that conventionally attractive people experience in daily life. It operates on an unconscious psychological bias where people naturally associate good looks with positive traits.

Like, does ugly "privilege" actually get you to get hired, earn more, or promoted faster at workplace than people with pretty privilege? Or does people are generally more friendly and helpful to you with it vs with how they react with pretty people? I really don't think so.

But FR tho. I don't wanna generalize, but maybe for "ugly couples" (subjectively), they usually compensate with great personalities so they probably enjoy each other's company A LOT

Friendships and connections are less superficial & more personality driven.

They can build genuine friendships with the opposite sex without them trying to hit on you. Jokes & compliments are taken at face value without people thinking it's flirting.
