Is Midnight Sun the new BRAT?

Featured Replies

They aren't streaming forces, but marketing and branding done right managed both albums to capture the zeitgeist, thus generating a lot of momentum going on for them as artists after years in the dark. Do you agree? Who do you think is next?

If she gets a couple of moments for the album it could be as well. BRAT had Guess, Apple, Von Dutch and 360 that did good streams for Charli and girl, so confusing with lorde as a song that was loved by people and critics alike while Midnight Sun so far only has the title track. When it comes to marketing I think brat had more going on but Zaras era isn't over yet so it might still reach the same level as Charlis. In short, it all depends on the deluxe.

Brat was actually good. Like a lot of the songs had deep topics like I think about it all the time and Girl So Confusing. The marketing was great and simple.

Midnight sun seems very superficial and shallow….the pretty ugly song is one of the worst song ever made.

Please don't compare.

If the title song and Blue Moon have anything to say about it... Then yes!

No. Zara's moment is mainly carried by a remix on which she is featured and the resurgence of an old song that has nothing to do with Midnight Sun.

Not really. She only had midnight sun and even that barely charted chile

Hmm, thin comparison. Yeah, they both thrive on online hype and great marketing, but that's about it. BRAT was much more widespread and just felt like it had a lot more going for it. BRAT feels like a career high, while Midnight Sun feels like it could be the start of something great, but it's not a really high peak yet

Midnight Sun is the definition of Twitter vibes lmao... what is this comparison. That album didn't even make the Top 100 in the US and missed the Top 40 in several European countries (despite Zara stans claiming she's "big" here... 10 years ago maybe). Only the title track made any noise (due to being spammed on Twitter for like 6 months). Everything else is unlistenable filler.

they're not really comparable. Zara's success feels much smaller compared to BRAT, but I do see some resemblances.

No and as it stands no one is really gonna be looking to Zara for high conceptual albums tbh, and that's perfectly fine ! She's in her straight forward bop making era , and in that sense she's succeeding

one was an organic smasha, the other one was a forced quasi-smasha

She sounds like a Rihanna clone in too many of her songs and it's annoying.

The way Zara even tried to start beef with Taylor but it flopped too

Brat was a long overdue breakthrough for a trailblazing visionary that never got the respect they deserve. Zara has consistently gotten the respect she deserves & if that hasn't been much, then she needs to develop more of an identity as an artist. IMO she's still not there yet & I don't even believe she even has the creative potential to ever be. I can't imagine hating her & I can imagine liking her but I can't imagine her being anybody's all time fav artist for life & that's an issue. There's nothing signature about her music that's exclusive to her. All the legends have some X factor that makes them standout. She's having a moment but what's gonna make ppl remember this moment 20 years from now? Bc if I had to bet on it, Midnight Sun will be forgotten & Brat will not be. Sorry

Yeah, exactly. End thread.

✅ twitter vibes
✅ annoying bags rally behind it
❌ the biggest song from the era is featured in the album
