Adele is known for her multiple "sweeps" at the Grammys. She has won a total of 16 awards out of 25 nominations, including 2 AOTY, 2 SOTY and 2 ROTY. No one really stood a chance against her.

But in 2023 she only won 1 out of 7 nominations which basically ended her Grammy darling status. What happened?

We only have one album to judge on and part of it is because it was seen as the same ol' same ol' from her. She could come back. Who I think has truly lost much of their Grammy power? Taylor.

30 wasn't the unprecedented success 21 and 25 were, so stopped being a surefire win. Harry's and Lizzo's wins that year were a mess anyways

Her last album came out 5 years ago

There is not much she can compete currently, only her last album declined a bit and she still won a grammy

She literally won her 4th AOTY only 2 years ago, which is a difficult thing to have, not everyone have multiple or even one

That was two years ago. Meanwhile, she released two back-to-back duds that aren't doing her any favors in her acclaim and Grammy love. And we love it!

She had a Grammy for every single album she ever put out

She won all the main categories - a feat very very few artists could achieve

She has nothing left to prove

She got cocky thinking she could release the same dirge for the third time in a row and still sweep like nothing. The Grammys said not today fatty

Winning 16 Grammy's doesn't mean you stopped just because you lost AOTy the 3rd time sweetie

not saying this as a troll or hater — I think her track record is really interesting. she's won AOTY twice more since 1989 but only won 4 awards total (including 2 AOTY trophies) out of her 29 nominations. you'd think she won more than 4 awards in the last 10 years based on the AOTY wins.

Lack of success compared to it's predecessors definitely a factor but I also wonder if the era of the 'Grammy darling' is pretty much dead (besides a few lesser known artists like Samara Joy). I guess we'll see with his upcoming album but Bruno losing all but 1 of his noms this year makes me lean towards yes.

30 just wasn't as succesful. I actually do think Adele has a fair chance of having another very succesful album (albeit not on the same level as 21 or 25) because her sound (stripped down, authentic, piano driven) is very in again. If she would release another album this year I can see it being a smash.

She can't win everytime. Harry's House didn't deserve it that year though. Truly tragic

I agree. Swift ain't winning AOTY for TLOAS. Olivia Dean is probably the frontrunner right now.

Being the most rewarded individual in the Pop Solo category doesn't read to me as stopping her Grammy darling status lol, that would be like saying that Taylor isn't a Grammy darling due to her numerous losses in the Pop field

The Grammys have moved away from sweeps in recent years tho with the removal of the blue ribbon panels and categories of 8+ nominees leading to vote splitting. I think that she'll win a few here or there for her next era, but the days of full sweeps are long over even for the biggest Grammy faves

It was an insanely competitive year where she didn't absolutely dominate the zeitgeist like she did for 21's run and most of 25's run. If 30 had been a huge, undeniable mega smash like those two eras, instead of being a really big & successful era but a downgrade, she probably would have snatched some more wins. I think she was in 2nd place for SOTY.

I have no doubt they'd award her another AOTY if they feel like it tbh. She appeals to the Grammy snobs because she's all typical singer/songwriter, not one oontz oontz to be found in her discog tbh.

Why should people care about what category an artist won a grammy for?

At the end of the day, they only count the total number of an artist's wins to brag about on TV shows or in magazines, not how many GF wins they've won.

There are a lot of artists have zero wins, yet yall are downplaying artists who already has more than 10 Grammys being considered "less prestigious"
