Janet's fanbase is Gen X and older. They don't use streaming music services as much as younger generations do today.

Also for some reason, Janet's had a lot of hits but they didn't become classics. I can't think of a single quintessential Janet song like you can for Madonna, Gaga, Michael Jackson, etc.

The nip slip didn't end Janet because of the GP. Les Moonves did.

As CEO of Viacom and CBS, he blacklisted her from MTV, VH1, and most major awards shows because she wouldn't personally apologize to him for nipplegate. Since this was before social media, this was like erasing her from the mainstream.
