Taylor wasn't expected to go home completely empty-handed last year so I kinda hope something similar happens to Sabrina, as much as Man's Best Friend still has me gagged. I'm just sick of Gaga being pigeonholed to Dance categories and never being able to break the Big Four glass ceiling. I fear this could be her last chance to do so.

Finally coming down from the post-Gaga (cantstopthe) high to say Mayhem Requiem was absolutely brilliant and incredibly mesmerizing. My husband knew the security guard at the venue who got us into the very front ground floor area when with regular GA we would have probably been halfway back. I really felt so lucky and could not believe we were in the room but also so so close. We were lucky to be front row for Mayhem Ball but this was so much more intimate. There were literally like 2 people between me and Gaga. Even though Gaga didn't interact a lot with the audience, being that close in a pit with actual space to move around in and dance among other monsters was indescribable. It's so hard to process everything happening but some notes/highlights for me were:

-Disease: the album opener and what I was hoping would be the Mayhem Requiem opener—hearing her vocals on the harmonies and just the absolute grit and power in her voice throughout was insane. Such an underrated song but brought to life live with RockGa vocals and a sordid underbelly

-Abracadabra: it's become my favorite song ever from Gaga and seeing it live performed at Coachella, Mayhem Ball, and now Mayhem Requirm just solidifies that (along with all her other sublime performances like Tudum, SNL, Howard Stern, etc). She started this one on piano and went into her falsetto for the chorus and then it exploded into the second chorus with a more upbeat tempo. Operatic vocals in the bridge, which is already perfect and divine, brought the "phantom of the dancefloor" line to life. It was dark, brooding, and set the tone for the funeral of the night, likely symbolizing the end of the Mayhem era (took me half the show to realize the set was the Mayhem Ball columns/set deconstructed and the lighting reminded me of the purple Applause video cone-shaped lighting towards the end…). Just perfection.

Garden of Eden: a straight up BANGER even in this setting. The lights were green like Mayhem Ball but not overly so if I remember correctly—she brought out the guitar and the crowd was jumping and dancing. One of the most energetic and fast tempo moments of the night and it kept the show powering along so well.

Perfect Celebrity: amazing vocals, similar to Mayhem Ball but without the litter box :) I remember it ended before the breakdown at the end

Vanish Into You: I was surprised this was not the closing song to be honest but it made sense once she was doing songs in the album order. It was played on piano I believe for part of it and started similar to the Late Show/Colbert. She was definitely more experimental with her vocals on this with different harmonies than she's ever done on it. It was a more sad, aching emotional tone, fitting the funeral vibe. The crowd was singing along so loud during some parts I couldn't hear every single note but it was piercing and brilliant. I closed my eyes for a good chunk of it and just listened to her voice—there is not a singer in the world that is as emotive as her. It's mindblowing she can make it sound so many ways even with the same song, on similar instruments, etc.

Killah: an absolutely highlight. I'll admit it's not one of my favorite tracks on the album but this slapped so hard live (Mayhem Ball version is great too) but her vocals were perfect and the energy of it was completely different. The crowd was wild for this one!

Zombieboy: interesting version— was a different and slower overall take and "we about to be up all night" was like 1/3rd the speed and kind of matched the outro in sound more, definitely could see how the staging and sound fit this version more and the outro was perfect for this setting

LoveDrug: one of my favorite songs so I'm biased but a great performance. It was so great to hear those falsetto notes and the powerful belts live. She went down more so in her notes as the song went on, in line with the dark, funeral outfit and staging.

How Bad Do U Want Me: one of the best performances of the night and I think the best performance of the song I've ever heard live/from videos of other concerts. Vocals were perfection. She hit every note and then some. This was surprisingly but objectively so good and the crowd was singing every note but Gaga is what drove it home. That last TELL MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE was amazing!!! Chills.

Don't Call Tonight: someone mentioned this is a "beach vibes" song and I totally got that with the live version. Just a slow jam, easy to bop too and it translates so well with live instrumentation. Everyone in the audience seems to know this performance was extra special since it was her first time. Gaga's vocals again were amazing and the bridge followed those last angry belts especially the last "UH OH!!!!" gave me chills again!

Shadow of a Man: Gaga put on her power bottom/blonde high heeled feminist energy for this one and mounted the pile of crumbling columns at the top of the stage and gave one of the best performances I've ever heard from her. I think without having to dance the spotlight was totally on her and her voice. The growls upon growls were just insane. She also switched between singing the "I don't wanna fade into the darkness tonight" and "show me the light" parts between the first and second chorus if I remember correctly which I thought was so cool (the audience sang the other voice of course!). A BANGER and my favorite of the night along with Abracdabra/HBDUWM

The Beast: similar to the Mayhem version. The last epic belt was truly insane…like she is unreal. She hit all the little notes and held that note for what felt like an eternity and the crowd lost their collective sh*t

Blade of Grass: my first time hearing the song live and it was another great performance. I think it was the only true pure piano performance of the night and her voice sounded better than the studio version

Die With A Smile: Gaga played Nigthcall, one of my favorite songs, in the pre show set and hearing it live the mixing sounded similar to it so I'm glad to hear after the fact that it was in fact that song! It was a little weird to hear Bruno's normal voice/kind of broken up to the slower more ominous version. Gaga's vocals were more low and interspersed on this. Honestly it wasn't my favorite but I do think the sound of the production and the overall vibe might be an indicator of things to come with new music.

Can't Stop The High: what a tease! a bow song that should have been fully performed in full in my greedy completely insignificant opinion but just her singing some of the first part of it was amazing. The "I've got a feeling that the DJ might take me home" part was pure pop rock perfection and the everyone around me was dancing and jumping!

Overall, it was just a surreal experience being physically that close to Gaga and it seemed like she was going back to her roots in music, showing us her process and her raw, unfiltered vocals and emotions and she was FULLY committed to the entire bit and experimenting with sounds she's never really deeply explored before despite a career showcasing unparalleled versatility. Seeing her in long blonde hair with the gothic/opera overtones and wearing black reminded me of the Born This Way Ball and the Grammys Born This Way performance with her unsettling organ bridge. It's the closest I'll get to the BTW Ball as my NYC date at the time was cancelled but in many ways she's come so ridiculously far as an artist and human being that seeing her happy, healthy, and at a creative peak at this stage in her career I'm unreal. She's entering new territory as an artist. It's just incredible to see Gaga as a theater kid (Harlequin) and almost like a mad, genius scientist playing all the instruments and mixing potions before our eyes. Only at the very last moments did she acknowledge the audience, kind of coming out of her and returning to the world and fans she's inspired so much. While Mayhem Ball is a feast for the eyes, this was a feast for the soul to me. An artistic conclusion and simultaneous hint towards new horizons in her sonic landscape. She truly, truly is one of a kind and we are lucky to witness her evolution, talent, and unrelenting drive
