Agree TB would still achieve the same goals even with 15-30 seconds shaved off somewhere, maybe one of the pre-choruses or its repetition after the instrumental bridge

2. The Edge of Glory in April 2011 (2nd #1 debut for the era, could have been twice as big as it was)

3. Judas in May 2011 (pushed alongside album release so controversy & lore would still be established in the context of her career but not hinder TOEG's full potential at the time)

4. Yoü and I in August 2011 (pretty much exactly as it happened & for the same reasons)

5. Scheiße in November 2011 (MTN & its MV are lowkey self indulgent in hindsight. Although a legendary Gaga song, it may have been more remembered / iconic as a non-single album opener. Gaga's instinct was right back then with Scheiße, it deserved a full global push & had huge potential. It's amazing recurrence as an album track prove this)

This is obviously speculative but I think the last minute inclusion of DWAS negatively effected the tracklist.

You mean by adding DWAS is messed up the flow of the album, or do you mean that it impacted what songs made it to the final tracklist?

The latter. It feels like The Beast and Blade Of Grass set the tone for DWAS but they're also the weakest songs on the album.

Ohhhh. The Beast (production wise) feels like it's one of those songs that would have been there since the early sessions before she tried to shift the album to "electro-grunge". Plus she teased the whole demon monster protecting the vault thing in early 2024 well before DWAS was created. And BOG has a very particular type of delivery that makes me think it came about during the PC/Disease/CSTH sessions. It's a piano ballad but the melody is very much from the same time period of those other tracks.

I honestly don't think DWAS affected the tracklist that much other than potentially replacing another ballad.

I actually feel like that 2018 photoshoot is so overrated. Never got the love for it aside from a photo or two.

Blade of Grass is essentially inevitable. It's about Michael (MAYHEM's muse) and serves its purpose of bridging DWAS to the rest of the album better than any other ballad we've heard from the era. I've tried listening to the sequence with Happy Mistake & Glamourous Life but both sound out of place.

Don't Chop Tonight is truly the only stinker. Bridge is great, verses & pre chorus are good, but the chorus is a non-event & way below Gaga's standards. Cant Stop the High easily deserved its place on the main tracklist

Don't Call Tonight adds more to MAYHEM than CSTH in my opinion. CSTH's sound is already represented in PC & its themes of partying/addiction in LoveDrug.

Don't Call Tonight is more introspective lyrically & sonically stands out from the rest. Plus the vocoder is an important aspect of MAYHEM as we saw in Requiem & the bridge represents that best.

I just think Can't Stop the High is a better song & it wouldn't have hurt to further establish PC's sound bc it was new for Gaga & works very well. I may be biased tho bc I've been wanting "electro-grunge" from Goyle for years
