Just came here to say YA YA is Top 5 in her whole discography. (All Night, YA YA, Standing on the Sun, Countdown and Baby Boy are probably her Top 5 for me), justice for the H&M ad campaign version of SOTS that never came to fruition I've been complaining about it since 2013 deadbanana2

ALREADY is a close #6 tho hihi, what a bawpp!!!!

U kinda served with ur taste but that Standing on the Sun sneak is diabolical

ill always love my basic pop im sorry she ate BAD with that generic tropical beat, when she started serving Tate McRae 2025 VMAs thrashing and serving sex choreo at the beach WAP

Age 44:

Tina Turner -> Private Dancer

Madonna -> Die Another Day

Cher -> in the middle of Heart of Stone era

Also, Ms superstitious "my fav number is 4" will release the final Act at the age of 44. I dont know about y'all, but i feel the stars are aligning jonny3

Rennie will always have a special place in my heart because I'll always remember that era when I finished medical school and started training, Break My Soul was my sh*t!!! Going to work and being told to leave work while encouraging me, only Bey can do that jonny4

But as a whole I think LEMONADE, Cowboy Carter, and 4 are still her trinity of albums for me (BDay a close 4th). The warmth and husk of Bey's mature voice is PERFECT for CC, the way she incorporates a folk-acoustic soft rock sound throughout the record I ADOREEE! I think sound wise early Beyonce where she maintained a lighter vocal color would've been my preference for Rennie, Lemonade came at a perfect time for her and 4 was just chefs kiss, I loved her little throwback r&b moment (Lay Up Under Me: banger, Best Thing I Never Had: banger, End of Time: banger)

If I had to pick her worst I'm sorry it has to be IASF. I'm sorry but outside of the singles nothing really caught my attention. Radio is to Beyonce as Stay Stay Stay is to Taylor Swift (just trash i'm sorry), Ave Maria, Video Phone, Save the Hero are all a whole lotta nothingburger. This was her closest sellout era, a damn mess.

BDay though, whew it may not have her best songs but it is CONSISTENTLY good. The PERFECT gym album, front to back gets your blood pumping! Kitty Kat and Freakum Dress are highlights for me, Resentment is a weak song and the only ballad but the choice in production really saves it. Deja Vu remains my favorite Beyonce lead single of all time, I know CIL is iconic and so is Halo + SL, but the energy and the delivery is so chefs kiss THIS IS POP ROYALTY!!!!

Am I the only one thinking there's a bit of reach with this supposed Act III "tease"?

Maybe I'm too jaded or possibly it's that Bey is just not one to do overtime on the easter eggs?

It's totally plausible that it may be something. After all, she gave us Renny title in Harper's Bazaar and, in some regards, can be pretty on the nose with her precursor moves.

That said, I think I'll be most moved should she debut a new look at the Grammys or drop a commercial during the Super Bowl again.

We, at the very least have Met Gala in place as a "thing" most likely forming part of the era, but really intrigued to see the when, what, and how of Act III's launch

To be very honest, this applies to the entirety of RENAISSANCE (sans maybe CHURH GIRL sorry) She did something pretty unprecedented in the current pop/R&B landscape with that album by taking a genre like Dance, which for many people sounds like a very specific thing, and making it not only universal and far-reaching with its scope, but also incredibly digestible while still being largely experimental and ahead of the curve.

There really isn't a single song that doesn't somehow flip the conventions of its established genre on its head, either by introducing anachronistic sonic elements or by completely subverting what one would expect from its lyrics/melodies. There's the fusion of rap/gospel/soul on an electronic club banger like BMS, or the experimental rap-singing strewn across the more traditional dance backdrop of ITG, or the literal mish-mash of cunty ballroom with 70s glam disco in PURE/HONEY.

Bey first used the phrase sonic cinema in reference to The Gift, but I don't think there's ever been an album more aptly described as such than RENAISSANCE. Visuals or no, that record front to back is a relentless f*cking experience.

I still would like those visuals, though.

Yeah 100%. It's incredibly impressive how she managed to take the building blocks of dance (and country) and refract them through her own lens to create something that is unmistakably Beyoncé. It's why all those "100 writers" stan bs is so idiotic because no one else sounds like her.

On the topic of Act III, is there anything y'all are expecting about the launch?

As said above, I'm particularly intrigued about the:

Initial Announcement: I don't like repetition nor is that Bey's thing, but it's becoming increasingly clear at a time that she does the least promo than ever that it absolutely benefits her eras when she kicks off with a huge, mass-reaching...thing.

That Verizon Super Bowl commercial was perfect and IMO is a huge component of the early buzz around Cowboy Carter. Hell, I think she wasted some of the initial buzz by not dropping the album pre-order there and then. Definitely would have been a 600-700k debut (just off the curiosity pre-orders alone) and, in mitigating risk, wouldn't have made the era so dependent on whether the single/s took off or not. Of course, Texas ended up blowing tf up, but my point here is that it's never a guarantee.

There aren't many platforms that can rival the enormity, reach, or virality of the Super Bowl. Maybe she uses whatever is left in that thus-far-blah Levi's deal, to drop a commercial for Act III. Would be a win for her sales and win for the brand.

The First SIngle/s: Curious about what she'll drop as the first taste of the album. This trilogy's history has shown that she purposefully drives in a very on-the-nose direction to palette-set the soundscape of the era (e.g. BMS, T'HE).

Rock is interesting in that, if you scan the charts, there is very little Rock present in terms of current smashes. At the same time, it's a pretty classic sound that theoretically works whenever. Would imagine she would need to drive home the sound while ensuring it's ear-candy enough to work for Z100 and somehow her Rhythmic/Urban audience too. A sweeter/more GP-leaning YaYa feels like it will do the trick.

Equally, I like the idea of a surfire collab (Bruno, hell even Harry for the Columbia synergy of it all).

Even more wildcard, I could see her not doing pre-release singles at all. As said above, Bey doesn't seem to do repetition much, and when she does, she borrows from her own playbook in different ways. E.g. we are no longer in the era of surprise drops, but she still incorporates surprise into her wheelhouse. We're all sitting here bracing for what the single will be, when in reality there's no reason she won't dive back into her ST bag of dropping everything all at once (albeit pre-announced this time) and letting the most popular track/s rise to the surface based on fan buzz. If anything, it's the more risk-averse option anyway.

At the same time, I feel like she absolutely has the right data-crunchers on her team/label to know what the best mode of play is. So if it benefits the era to launch with a candy-coated single that, just like BMS and T'HE, peaks with the album release, that's what they'll do. If she's coming with some left-field, artsy, bold project that runs the risk of polarizing audiences ahead of the album's release, then maybe avoiding a single and using her name-value/era buzz alone to drive pre-orders will be the play.

Love this post (I love love love an essay) but I will say that it's unfair to suggest rock isn't having a moment.

Beautiful Things was major and Warren's Ordinary is basically Christian Rock. Die with a Smile is soft rock. Good Luck Babe is synthpop-rock.

She needs to drop all non music ventures apart from Cecred. If she really goes hard it could be massive. She also needs to get real and post more content of her using the brand. That's a big part of why Skims and Haus Labs are so successful. I know it annoys her but she's a celebrity and this is a celebrity brand. Part of what people are buying is her.

The 'let the product speak for itself' will only take you so far. She needs to invest personally, with her face, now to build a brand that sustains itself.

I also think we're overestimating how sugar coated BMS was. The narrative I remember is that people sort of didn't understand it until the album dropped.

Texas felt different - it's a truly standalone single that hits the perfect notes in terms of GP appeal.

Cuff It would have been the obvious first single from Rennie if they were pushing for a quick number 1, it's far easier to digest both as a song and as a Beyoncé song.

I'm expecting something big and bombastic from the Act 3 single—hopefully something truly anthemic and grand.

I totally agree. I think MOVE for me is incredibly powerful when it comes to creating a sonic world. It feels sweaty, humid, dark. Listening to it makes me feel like I'm in a club deep in the jungle. Barking dogs around the perimeter. Purple and orange club lights against silhouettes of palm trees and the hum of crickets. And the way it morphs from an anthem about dominating the floor with your girls to one about dancing through the pain of romantic neglect…oof. It's insane

For this Rock album I need 12-16 tracks and please no interludes. I think CC wasn't perceived as well as Renaissance by the GP cause it was seen as long, the interludes were confusing, and the Jolene cover was kinda gimmicky.

ofc people are reading way too deep into it but hey, we'll take anything that hypes up the pop fans to get on board after CC (which this little tease is currently doing)

the rock & roll and mosh pit lyrics are obviously bodyguard/cc related, as is the merch drop, put her picking those lyrics in particular feels like a very deliberate hint

that'd be cute but we have enough recordings of her singing that song for it to take up space on a new album, i'd rather get brand new music

by all means she can sample rock classics, guitar solos and famous melodies à la renaissance and make them current, she's great at that, but we don't need more full covers and especially not ones like jolenebiblio

The current global #1 with over 2bio streams is literally Soft-Rock (End of Beginning) and sombr is having an insane debut era in terms of success. Add to that Iris slaying the charts or Fleetwood Mac.

Rock is back. Maybe not the Linkin Park/Metallica type of Rock, but it certainly is back and bigger now than in the 2010s.

Taps mic...is this a safe space?

I'mma need a lil more movement from our girl for whatever the live thing is for Act III.

We've spoken about her choreo or lack thereof adnaseium since the trilogy era began, and the mature stan in me gets that it's a given that her performance style has had to evolve for a few reasons (longevity, pacing, age, and injury etc).

But, watching Twitter timelines go wild for that live Freakum Dress moment has me hoping she had ish like that up her sleeve for Act III.

RWT = iconic tour, but injury + intention (based on Fatima's words) limited choreo. Deffo ramped up and amped up as tour continued

CCT = Country vibe inherently calls for less all-out 8-counts. Decent enough amount of movement featured - even if mainly her dipping in and out of routines. With that, there is absolutely room to amp it up.

Act III Tour: if choreo is well and truly gone (in comparison to the rising/hungry Bey era), THIS is the era/tour to go all-out on vibes and energy in its place! I want that wig glue put to the ultimate test! Shaking, convulsing, and just outright velocity. IMO, I'd much rather take a shorter, tighter show (duration-wise) that is heavy on energy than anything too lo-fi (which aspects of CCT naturally were, like Alligator Tears, Just For Fun etc).

We;ll see.

I hear you, and I like that the climate will arguably be reset/preset for Bey to thrive with a rockier sound whenever she drops.

At the same time, there are considerations that are somewhat "Bey-specific" that IMO may not be there (or, as applicable) to a Sombr or Stranger Things viral track.

Bey, as an artist with a principally Urban audience but huge Pop notability, is tasked with appealing to all.

Much as BMS is crapped on by some of the Hive, I love how it so intentionally fused all the elements needed to hit those audience marks. The song itself is undeniably Pop and Dance (arguably the most on the nose she's ever been with either), yet she + proeucers were smart to sprinkle in those rap-sung parts, Big Freedia, and Hip Hop elements that make it just as at home on Z100 as it would be on Power 105.1 during The Breakfast Club.

I guess what I'm saying/bracing for is how she pulls that off with Rock.

I'm actually bracing for an album that's definitely longer than Rennie, and possibly just as long as Cowboy Carter (give or take a few songs).

I LOVE Bey, but as realistic Chart Hive, I feel like I've been clocking her tactics for min. IMO, I do not believe there is a world where Bey ideally wanted to put out an album as long as Cowboy Carter. Her career-long bag has been quality over quantity.

IMO, Cowboy Carter was her playing the streaming game and winning. More tracks = more streams = more sales. Even from one-and-done curiosity listens. The proof IMO is in how many half-tracks, unconventional runtimes, and interlude-esque songs there are. Not to mention her GOING BACK in to add even more songs (hence the digital having way more than the original vinyl).

Cowboy Carter was always going to do bigger sales than its predecessor, thanks to the momentum of Rennie. But I doubt it would have been a whole 100k more if it wasn't for the intentionally longer tracklist.

Seeing that it worked and knowing she isn't a streaming beast (let's call a spade a spade), she'd arguably be setting herself up to potentially underperform should she not have at the very least a Rennie-sized tracklist but more likely CC. Not ideal, but it's the nature of the game - and she is absolutely still playing it IMO.
