Taylor actually engages with fans and is willing to allow fun teasers to build hype before release. Disney is obviously going to invest in that.

Oh Beyoncé dont make that face

This reminds me of the time I was next to one of her Lion King coworkers at the Renaissance tour. She paid him dust when she flew over us and looked down in our direction. She really is kinda…

The concept of releasing variants for a kids movie song… had Yonka done this for Spirit they would have had her throat. Can she transfer the greed she has for Whiskey and Shampoo into her music? Give us some Spirit variants? I mean I wouldn't buy it but hypothetically

The knee thing happened during IASF but probably got exacerbated during Beychella/OTR 2 she kinda overworked herself physically that time. She was probably recovering from the surgery sometime during dubai since she was limping

my understanding as well.

blame elton john. hes the one that got spirit cut from the end credits and took the fyc campaign that year too even though he already had a song from his biopic in the running (and thats what won)

I will say I don't think the story of Spirit just being so good that it HAD to go into the film is the fully story.

I am just theorizing here, but the fact that it was meant to be the final credits song and it was replaced by a new song from Elton John seems peculiar to me. They thought Spirit was so great so put it in the film, but then edited it so the flow was off and used it as background music as the only song in the film a character doesn't sing ultimately making it stick out? Ya... okay.

EDIT: oops I did NOT read what was directly above this lol.

I never knew this, Spirit DOES feel... randomly injected in the movie, like the editing team just threw it on the day before. Elton John is sick

nope ur absolutely correct!

elton got mad that disney hired pharrell to do the music for the new movie because he composed the music for the original film. pharrell had tapped his friend beyoncé to do the end credits song (and of course assisted on the gift) but when elton got wind of this (even though he was busy with his very successful biopic) he raised hell at disney and demanded the end credits song. of course beyoncé had been courted by jon faverau and disney for years before this movie began production, so they shoehorned her song into the movie to satiate her. thats the true reason why she paid promo for the movie dust (and then went off and essentially made her own live action lion king film).

this is also why spirit is the final song on the gift/black is king, not placed where it is in the film. that was its original intended position.

maybe so! but she probably would've been a lot more inclined to actually campaign for the oscar, as we saw 2 years later when she did be alive

he did. he spoke with the sun about it. but that was before pharrell was hired. the film was in pre-production and he assumed he would be asked back:

"They need to have a new end credits song," Elton John told The Sun. "There's going to be four of our songs in the film, from the original: 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight?', 'Hakuna Matata,' 'I Just Can't Wait To Be King,' and 'Circle of Life.' And then there will be an end, closing song, and we've been speaking to Beyonce's people and hopefully Tim [Rice] and I and her can cook up something." John also volunteered, "It will be great to work with her."

then once pharrell was announced to do the music & the film came to be this was his opinion:

"The new version of The Lion King was a huge disappointment to me, because I believe they messed the music up. Music was so much a part of the original and the music in the current film didn't have the same impact. The magic and joy were lost. The soundtrack hasn't had nearly the same impact in the charts that it had 25 years ago, when it was the best selling album of the year. The new soundtrack fell out of the charts so quickly, despite the massive box-office success. I wish I'd been invited to the party more, but the creative vision for the film and its music was different this time around and I wasn't really welcomed or treated with the same level of respect."

Spirit, spirit where are you? Cause I need spirit too.

Is that how the song goes? I don't remember.

Elton John fixing his lips to call anything disappointing with that glorified Cruise Ship record he forced into the movie? rip

Did Pharrell even end up doing anything? His centerpiece was a new version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" with Chance The Rapper that never materialized.

In an ideal world, "Find Your Way Back," "Ja Ara E," and "Keys To The Kingdom" (in that order) would be the end credit songs.

Moment of truth

I never watched the new version of TLK….

The gift, definitely, but I skipped TLK lol
