But I legit think this is her usual "got papped. Their pics range from ok to occasionally unflattering. Lemme get in front of it, control the narrative and the aesthetic with better pics on my IG that most people will see".

I'd be more inclined to move if she just dropped those pics outta the sky on her iG, but it was a papped-first sitch.

At the same time, I'm moving slightly because the look is very unconventional Bey. When has she ever (in recent memory) been seen in something so left of her usual?

So, my hunch is either: coming from a Met fitting and got papped. Or soft launching the look/vibe for Met and thus wasn't too fussed about being snapped. Or, it's all deliberate and geared towards engineering Act III buzz. All feels plausible and on the table.

I think it might be even les complicated than that - i think it's as simple as she knew she would be papped and wanted to be seen.
She very recently went out of her way to avoid being papped with a whole bunch of umbrellas covering her, so if she truly wanted to not be seen she wouldnt have been.
She clearly embraced being papped this time round (she wasnt covering her face or wearing her giant sunnies in the pap photos).
So yeah, she probably wanted to gag people with the outfit and soft launch the aesthetic of the next act

It's purple because the photo has purple tones in it. That part is automatic.

I just noticed that both the mirror and the phone case in the photos were also purple

Happy 10th anniversary to FWT! It's still crazy to me that she dropped the visual album and went on a stadium tour supporting said album not even a week later.
