Renaissance packaging had red as an accent color, and cc had blue. So it makes sense that act iii would be purple. Also works as a nod to Prince

A lot of people are saying it's also a nod to "Purple Rain"

the new pics, the mirror probably being a tease, the hold up reference, even her iphone being purple… purple rain…

those pics do have me worried she's gonna wear something big and poofy at the MET tho, and that can easily look unflattering under the wrong circumstances

Don't be worried about the Met look, KJ Moody and Ty surely weren't involved with the styling of that. They've been downgraded to do Chloe and Halle I fear.

Marketing wise just call it Echoville if the visuals are near....just tie it up like that...most don't even know of it

The purple is straight forward for obvious reasons but the Lemonade/hold up reference has me intrigued. Surely the next step is to remove the profile pictures and branding. Would be a good hype build pre Met.
