My mom passed away last week. I know I mentioned her wanting to hear a Beyonce rock album as she has anticipated it for years, and I'm so sad she didn't get to hear it before she passed (if that's wha

I have just realized that the "mom of 3" excuse for no promo is about to expire. They are old enough to take care of themselves now.

there's so much power in this song

im ******* tired of i care, i hope she cuts the damn song forever

It's so funny to me (and rewarding, as a hater of the song) that BTINH has never been performed outside its single run. It's like she knew it was basic and just released for commercial, not artistic, purposes.

okay I know the "rates" get people mad but I'm curious about what we think Beyoncé's best final-era single is...

I think it's an interesting exercise because it's a track from an album that she/her team deemed strong enough to have been a single, but not strong enough to have been released before the others though in some cases it's from a re-release.

Dangerously in Love: The Closer I Get To You
B'Day: Green Light
I Am...Sasha Fierce: Why Don't You Love Me
4: End of Time
BEYONCÉ: Ring Off
Lemonade: All Night
The Gift: BLACK PARADE
RENAISSANCE: AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM
COWBOY CARTER: II MOST WANTED

For me, it's probably AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM. That song is perfection. In fact, I haven't listened to it in a while, let me just go do that now...

Yup. A sugary rom-com sounding track which righted the ship that was that horrific album campaign (leaking a month early, RTW + EOT leaking weeks early), and gave the albino alligators internationally something to hold onto amidst the Blackness that was 4.

Could I say "Irreplaceable" and "Hold Up" were more successful, better-executed versions of that strategy on her Blackest albums?

I will say... If she ever does an Acapella album, "Pretty Hurts" and "Best Thing I Never Had" will suddenly gain so much respect in our fanbase: stellar vocal arrangements.

she's selling cigars next, and I will burn them next to my cécred candle with the names of all BTINH haters, I'm handling you guys spiritually now

Irreplaceable yes, though I duno if Hold Up fits that category per se. I think the reggae-influence stops it from so. I'd say If I Were A Boy fits in there too.

One thing we cannot take away from Beyoncé is incredible vocals, always.

the only criticism I have of the 4 hit single Best Hit I Never Had is that the instrumental makes me feel like I'm shopping in a Sims game

BTINH wouldn't be so bad if Irreplaceable never existed first.

However, it did. And it was released after Run the World which actually went somewhere new sonically, and thus felt like regression for her. And this after so many of her peers in the industry had also done their own versions of Irreplaceable. Rihanna even had three in one era (the title track from Good Girl Gone Bad which has a replica of Irreplaceable's instrumental; Hate That I Love You which is the most individual of the ones featured, but which clearly is created in a post-Irreplaceable world and even the music video is reminiscent of it; and Take A Bow which is the same sassy-send-off mid-tempo as Irreplaceable).

And this was like 3-4 years after the imitators, which made her just look late. At least when Beyoncé doubled down on the Crazy in Love sound with Green Light and Déja Vu it was just a year after 1 Thing came out and she had not necessarily moved on from that style as she had with IASF before 4 where she evolved it but did not repeat it.

"Hold Up", while reggae, kept the album afloat in the UK and Australia/NZ. I include these songs in the context of albums where the lead wasn't entirely accessible sound-wise to markets outside the United States (Formation, Deja Vu, Run The World (Girls)), so a subsequent single had ground to cover on Pop radio.

(I didn't include IIWAB / XO because of how well the "Urban"-sounding hit of the duo crossed over.)

At many points that first week of Lemonade, it looked like "Hold Up" should've been the rightful international single alongside "Sorry" (which should've become a US-only single). "Hold Up" was receiving constant radio play in the UK and I think it even beat "Formation" to #1 in the UK on iTunes for a brief time, if I'm not mistaken.

There are a couple of songs from BEYONCE such as Jealous, No Angel, and Superpower that she has rarely performed and unfortunately didn't get the spotlight they deserved.

It's honestly so sad.

I actually love best thing I never had. I like the beat as well. It's just funny to me how the beat sounds like an animation beat with Beyonce going the **** in on it with the vocals.
