I agree it's so jarring. It stuck out as the only non-original song in the film's beloved soundtrack as well as being the only song sung off-camera, as well as being weirdly edited to fit, changing the song's momentum.

But in her defence, the song was intended to be in the end credits. So her submitting at the last minute wouldn't have had to change much, they just slot it in.

But according to Hans Zimmer when he heard Spirit:
"I suddenly thought, 'No, no, no. This song is a gift. This song does a great bit of storytelling.' ... I just thought, 'Hang on. We should try this at this different spot as opposed to the end title.' I think it will be, if it's in the body of the movie and it's over a crucial scene, I think it will have much more resonance and weight,"

She had clearly submitted it with enough time that they thought they could rush it into the film and without thinking that it would need more time than an end credit song requires.

Also, The Lion King's soundtrack is soooo bad. Even Can You Feel The Love Tonight doesn't hit the same as the original, let alone how truly awful Be Prepared, one of the best Disney villain songs ever, was. TBH it shouldn't have been a musical at all. The desire to make it all as "real" as possible removed so much of the magic of the musical numbers of the original too.

Has anyone seen Mufasa? I watched it out of curiosity and was actually very pleasantly surprised. I found it far more entertaining, compelling and worthy in its own right than The Lion King, even with the sort of "tell me a story!" format of it. The music sucked though.

tbh when I was searching for it after this year's Super Bowl (as one does, looking back at other halftime performances) I was actually shocked it was on her channel, it seemed so unlike her lol.

If Beyoncé ever returns to acting I'd love to see her play an all out villain in a highly stylized film.

I think she's at her best (Goldmember, tbh) when she's allowed to imbue the performance camp. Where she stops being an actor and starts being Beyoncé is whenever she has to act sincere.
