Boyfriend won't stop vaping and lied

Featured Replies

My boyfriend used to smoke cigarettes which I hate, he switched to vapes during the summer promising that he would quit.

I even went to the vapestore with him to show him that I'm willing to 'close an eye' for things like that. He then told me that he just wants to quit, which made me happy. When someone vapes it gives me the idea that there is a lack of selfcontrol.

Last weekend I was at his home, his housemate was also there. His housemate started vaping. I told him to please not influence my boyfriend to start vaping again, to which my boyfriend replied 'dont worry I dont even want to anymore'. I went home later that day.

The next day I saw him again and asked him 'so did you manage to not vape?' to which he answered 'no I actually did vape haha'. I got so mad. I told him that hes untrustworthy and that I feel betrayed, I even started crying.

How would you react if your lover said one thing but did the opposite? I feel so frustrated.

  • Maybe vaping helps him to cope with other stressors in his life?

  • Help him don't force and terrorise him, you sound annoying (sorry)

It's so hard to quit. Unless he's lying about shooting up, I don't think it's a big deal

Wow you're so annoying crying because someone vaped.

I'd keep my vape and ditch your ass.

I get not liking to be lied to, at any level.

But at the same, it's an addiction we're talking about so it's necessary to be aware that he's going to be tempted if all his friends are vaping.

Also, if he was smoking before you guys dated, it's kind of your duty to cope with it.

I also hate it when people smoke (cigarettes definitely more so than vapes), but addictions are unfortunately quite hard to overcome. All you can do is encourage and support him to actually quit.

Or maybe you could try the Lois Griffin approach:

in this instance I actually think ur right. Vaping is SO disgusting. The scent makes me want to throw up. I cant believe people vape knowing how damaging it is + it looks absolutely ridiculous too

There's worse things he can be doing and you should be thankful for that :) and I think you have the wrong mindset that he's "lacking self control". Nicotine is extremely addictive, more addictive than alcohol and almost on the same level as heroin and I think you are lacking some understanding of that and being too controlling :)
