I remember listening to In the Zone album for the first time as a kid and freaking out over how different it was to her other stuff.

This is completely second-hand from memory, so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the story I always heard was that Britney's label insisted for Outrageous to be on the album & be a single, and Britney wasn't into it, and she fought for songs like MATM, Toxic, Everytime to be singles instead, until she eventually had to do Outrageous for the Catwoman movie.

 

There was also an interview in 2003 where an interviewer brought up Outrageous and Britney outright said that it's not her favorite and she prefers Early Mornin

Nnnn I did know she had to fight for MATM and Toxic over it but I didn't know she shaded it in an interview  damn, well, I agree it's in the lower tier of ITZ, but that doesn't mean much since ITZ is 10/10 

The production is so infectious. It's so different yet so her.
