Poetry is the cringiest art form in existence.

 

Partly because it's the most vulnerable way of expressing one's self.

 

It takes a real friend to not laugh at you when you open up to them about writing poetry.

 

There's a high chance what you think is brilliant ends up narcissistic drivel when externalised.

 

I instantly facepalm at the thought of poetry, on the other hand, I want to climb to the other side of the cringe mountain and romanticise every little thing in life.

I had no opinion of poetry, until I had a boyfriend that was into it and kept gifting me poetry books for every occasion there was. Now I definitely don't like it.

Literature teacher types are insufferable.

No, songs are included in the poetry umbrella.

 

I was gonna mention it in the OP but having interest in songs and poems are different hobbies, though not mutually exclusive.

 

It's beautiful how music and poetry interacts in creation 

I enjoy poetry, Sylvia Plath's work has got to be my favorite, however in a way it's a 1D version of music, so poetry becomes a little overshadowed for me at least

I am not pretentious enough 

 

Marguerite Yourcenar's poetry is honestly my favorite. I also really enjoy Margaret Atwood's work.

Emily Dickinson is not really for me, though

ot: I do enjoy it from time to time! I really like it when it's so subtly interwoven into 'the real word' (read: not just on paper) that you almost don't notice you're reading / hearing poetry. Like when it's on the facade of buildings and connects to its surroundings thematically.

 

I do feel kinda inadequate to some degree to fully enjoy a full poetry book, although I'd like to dive into that more. I almost always can't stand spoken word because of the over the top way of reciting lol. Maybe I just haven't heard the good stuff / my kind of spoken word.

I like it! Though it's not often that I find a poem/writer that I really like and connect with.

 

It seems really difficult to write poetry because you have to get over the fact that you're gonna write awful, cringy poetry, but I guess the only way to get better at it is to keep going 

i find the idea of writing my own poetry cringe but i was so good at analysing poetry in school. to me it was like solving a puzzle using everything i knew about rhyme, rhythm, language etc. to work out why the author made the choices they did. obviously some of that comes into play with analysing other literary forms but not all of it.

 

i guess overall it's not cringe as long as the person is a good writer.

yes, i've written like 40ish poems but i haven't been depressed for 4 years so i haven't written in 4 years periodt

I love it! The concept of someone letting you read their poetry.

I don't like reading it, but I like spoken poetry. It gives it a new life and deeper meaning, in my opinion. 

No only Haikus.

I used to listen to the audio version of Lana's poetry book a lot, but not sure if I would like it that much without the background instrumental music 

 

For more classic poetry, I think having someone to break it down like this to help you understand can be quite interesting 

 

 

i can appreciate a good poem but i never go out of my way to buy poetry books, it's not a form of art i actively seek out

 

i once dated a guy who read me his poems and i had to smile and nod through it
