"Successes" that were actually flops

Featured Replies

What are some songs or albums that at the time were considered successful, but looking back were actually flops or underperformances

I'll start, Rare by Selena was not all that

Manchild is kinda giving me that vibe at the moment. It is statistically a success, and no one can really call it a flop off of face value, but it is already out of the Top 10 and I just don't see it

Manchild is kinda giving me that vibe at the moment. It is statistically a success, and no one can really call it a flop off of face value, but it is already out of the Top 10 and I just don't see it having the lasting power it should as the lead single following so soon after Sabrina's monumental SNS era.

The album release may help get a second life, however I won't be surprised if her team pivots to another song that gets more shine around the album release. I would be happy to proven wrong.

"Used To Be Young" debuted in the Top 10 of Billboard Hot 100 but it is actually a song with very bad numbers.

It has 272M streams after almost 2 years of release and it isn't a memorable song, it debut numbers were good only because all that "Disney drama" and now it's doing 90K/110K daily streams. 😐

Manchild it's giving yes, and? vibes, let's see if Sabrina can pull another big song (I don't think Manchild was the best single choice of the album).

Chained to the Rhythm; record breaking debut on Spotify (at the time) and a top 10 debut but it was the beginning of the end.

Who considers Rare a successful era outside of LYTLM? :rip:

Most, if not all, #1 debuts this decade on the Hot 100.

A ton of drakes recent "hits" outside of Nokia

The album is still charting after a year, and scored a global #1 solo. Someone hasn't had a solo #1 since…I don't even know when, the first Obama administration?

That one rapper (Travis Scott?) who recently pulled some sales riggery on the BB200 to get a #1

#1 US, #1 UK, month old and still doing 3.5 million daily but we're focusing on a Spotify chart number?

This is really a stan bubble sometimes.

I Said I Loved You First which had a promising start but just fell off

Pink Friday 2, did some good first week numbers but had like no longevity or hits

Days Before Rodeo and Jackboys 2 by Travis

No one ever considered this a success:rip: I remember it was mocked on Twitter for its poor chart performance.

All of the albums that did well because of big fanbases the first few months and then faded. No songs are remembered and people barely listen today but the numbers seem huge.

Her delusional fans will tell you otherwise :rip:

P!nk's Can't Take Me Home.

Sold about 4m copies which is not bad at all for a debut album in the year 2000 but was basically rendered obsolete the very next year with the total rebrand of M!ssundaztood (which sold over 12m copies).
