Lucky - Britney Spears | Turns 25

Featured Replies

Released as the 2nd single of her sophomore iconic 20M+ selling album Oops

I Did It Again!

It became a worldwide smash for her, peaking at #1 in Europe and reached #1 in Austria, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland and went top 5 in the UK and top 10 in 20+ countries.

It peaked at #23 in the USA.

The key change in the final chorus is soo beautiful !

Why did Britney's singles peaked so low in the US? She was the biggest popstar

So many Britney and non Britney stans dismiss Oops as some sort of teeny bopper album that's low tier in her discography but they're dead wrong.

It's immaculate Pop perfection with the most memorable hits of her career, her BEST vocals, her most beautiful ballads... literally zero skips. And it had more potential singles in it istg. Basically what Millennium is to the Backstreet Boys but better. :sistrens:

Lucky in particular does a great job at letting the listener know what they're about to listen when they play the album... ear candy Pop but far from empty it's a song with a very heartfelt delivery. She was NOT playing in that booth.

Such an IMPACTFUL song :clap3: everyone Loves it

Jade's amazing debut Angel of my Dream taking inspiration from it

Megan Trainor getting inspiration from it to write a song in honor of her mother

Taylor paying homeage to it with The Lucky Ones

Halsey's recent single being a basically tribute song to Lucky

Back then, she didn't release physical CD singles in the US, which actually played a big role in how songs charted on the Billboard Hot 100. So her Hot 100 chart positions were based purely on radio airplay, since this was before the digital download era kicked in that took her back to the top.

Did this music video get rotation on Nickelodeon back in the day? I think that's where I first heard this song. It's such a classic regardless. It also never ceases to amaze me how prophetic the lyrics from some of her early songs ended up being.

Quote

Lost in an image, in a dream
But there's no one there to wake her up
And the world is spinning, and she keeps on winning
But tell me what happens when it stops?

The story of her life , love it

It's because she confided in Max Martin and others and gave them concepts to develop into pop classics. She didn't request co-writing credit as she felt it was better to establish a relationship than to be greedy. (This also happened with Pharrell during ITZ and Blackout). Circus was likely the only album where they didn't consult her and just went off of tabloids and other people's spin

The good thing is if Britney ever wanted to make a song or album she has so many producers/songwriters still willing to work with her.

Oops!... I Did It Again had an incredible singles run - lowkey her best - and it definitely had more singles in it. Lucky is such a beautiful song and video. Both so pretty and catchy, and sad.

Forever & always her best bubblegum song :celestial4:

I've always thought Oops... was the best teen pop album of the Y2K era. Definitely more sophisticated content than BOMT.

Besides her debut, all her singles were primarily distributed to radio stations in the US. It was a label decision to incentivise purchasing the album over the singles, so all of the chart listings of her songs were mainly driven by the level of radio play they received. It only got worse after 2001, when she was allegedly blacklisted on various radio stations, and iconic classics such as IS4U had poor chart performances.
