The Dutchess (2006) was a massive success that sold 14.5m album units and produced 3 #1 smash hits. 

 

At the same time, BEP were pumping out successful hits. 

 

Given Atrl has been arguing new girls who can't pull even one 10m+ era MPGs, do you consider Fergie a MPG of the 2000s?

She needed 1 more #1 in the US to be considered 1.

On ATRL? I don't know, we see that artists with stats like Ariana and Dua aren't enough for MPG status, while the same user claims that Addison Rae, Gracie Abrams and Chappell Roan ARE MPGs. 

Absolutely, The Dutchess was a complete smash and was inescapable for 2 years straight. Had she chosen to continue her solo career instead of continue with BEP, her sophomore era would have been a smash off hype alone - but I do think her music would have been great too if she released in 2008-2010. It actually makes me pretty sad because you can tell she doesn't realize how big her impact was (and how much she is missed). Without her, BEP would not have had nearly as many hits as they did and that's just reality. I don't know one person that didn't love Fergie in the 2000s. 

Fergie was the biggest female pop star in America in 2007. The Dutchess outsold all the girls and she had the most huge hits.

Her downfall kinda shook me. But Double Dutchess was doomed from the start. Flop singles, dropped by Interscope, her sound was kinda tired in 2014

She's definetely a main gif girl though!

 

Both BEP and The Dutchess was huge. No pop girl has ever topped this either:

She had a big moment, but she herself never felt big if that makes any sense. 

 

Kind of like Nelly Furtado.  

 

They had big hits, but were never able to cross over into superstar icon territory. 

 

Even Pink.  Yes she's had WAY more hits and way more massive eras but she's just there..... in the background.  Having done nothing iconic.  Nothing that people will be able to point to years and decades from now as having changed the direction of culture, society, fashion, music, performance. 

 

People like them are a different kind of MPG.  Monotonous Pop Girls.  They're successful, but they are also successfully mediocre in terms of their impact.

Like who? Ariana & Dua are for SURE MPGs.

I think the successful but not impact aspect is interesting and should be discussed more tbh. 

 

Fergie and Nelly don't feel like MPGs I agree because they came and went in a few years. But Pink is harder to ignore - she's far ahead of Xtina in units and was pretty consistent until the mid 2010s. 

 

I'd argue Pink deserves MPG status. Realistically in 20 yrs, someone is more likely to remember one of Pink's hits than Xtina's Dirrty.

In the year of 2006, sure. She was very of her time and not main pop girl material. She wasn't iconic or influential like Xtina or Britney. 

Oh 200%. That 2003-2010 run was massive. 

Yes. The Duchess was massive and she was definitely a MPG at the time. She's not anymore, but at the time.

She should have released another solo album right after her debut and she'd prob still be huge today.

That's equal or more than some "safe" MPGs on atrl.

Yes, in 2006-2008. She had massive, massive hits in The Dutchess era. I was only in 3rd grade and her songs were everywhere. I genuinely don't think there's another era since Thriller that had as many consecutive huge hits that felt that pervasive, yes including TD. London Bridge was a big stomper summer bop, then Fergalicious became a schoolyard classic, then Glamorous was a f**king huge pop rap crossover that was on the radio every ten minutes. I remember when she performed on American Idol everyone expected she would do Glamorous because it was smashing, but she did Big Girls Don't Cry which gagged all the soccer moms and became THEE Hot AC classic of the mid 00s. Then she rounded it all out with Clumsy, another huge pop smash that played nonstop through the next year.

she was during the duchess. The black eyed peas cemented her legacy as a BIG pop act of the time
