the casualness of "who happen to like Trump" :bibliahh:

The point being; the fact that they like Trump has nothing to do with why they were there.  They weren't participating in Trump ideology.  Again, half the country voted for Trump.  You're going to interact with them, it's unavoidable.

Idk, I feel like Taylor's public longstanding beef with Trump is more important than her having mutuals who are dumb white people. That whole thing just feels like people looking for something to drag

But the fact that your title is aimed at the Swifites for this instead of Taylor herself shows that you don't actually care, you just want a card to play in stan wars, so!

Clock em sis

Taylor is bound to be around MAGAs seeing as that's the majority of the US but Travis isn't MAGA and she can't help being around again the majority :gaycat6:

how`s about you guys should all stop criticized these pop girls for the most mundane things

We all know that it's the Liddos based on history and what gets mass downvoted whenever you don't praise her to high heavens.

Swifties will mass reply and shut down any valid criticisms with essay justifications.

That said, I'm not sure this one should be held against her. America is half MAGA right now and it's a bit impossible to avoid. I also don't think it's unrealistic for someone to be friends with a person on the other side of the aisle

It's very possible to avoid. You just have to have integrity.

I do agree she gets off easier than the other girlies but I do also agree that a picture with someone is not an endorsement.

She would lose 30-40% of her sales and streams at this point if she were to ever publicly denounce Republicans. They make up a significant part of her album sales in particular.

She lowkey denounced Trump in her Miss Americana movie and went super pro-LGBT liberal ally with Lover & those two albums were her least successful. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why.

Hm? Lover is her 4th biggest album and is set to end up her 2nd biggest in the next couple years. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why she bagged one of her biggest album after she broke silence politically and endorsed Democrats.

taylor is too nice to deny someone of a pic, specially at an event like that. plus even if she didn't wanna take pics with magas, there's no way in hell she could know everyone's political affiliation/beliefs

That is largely due to the sleeper success of "Cruel Summer", which didn't become a hit until 2023 — when it had been 4-5+ years since the original era, Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights had already happened, she was on her massive world tour, and enough time had passed for her MAGA stans to forget or get over it.

Look, I personally don't care what her politics are because I don't expect her or any other musician to be required to be a political activist, let alone even all that knowledgeable on them. I'm just saying she's in a Catch-22 situation because at this point in time, she is going to alienate a significant chunk of her cultish fanbase whether she goes staunch Democrat… or not.

many anti-maga people have family members/friends/co-workers/acquaintances who are supporters... life goes on

Right, she tweeted this before Folklore came out, and we all remember what a critical and commercial failure that album was

America didn't vote against MAGA including the popular vote.

It's not just half of America where you could be associated with a Trump Lover or Harris Hater.

She's pretty much the personification of the white liberal woman: shallow, mundane, doesnt care about anything outside her sphere but hey she makes a lot of money!

Either way, this is expected of her. Nothing wrong with that but it makes her political bullshit in 2018-2019 even more performative than ever.

This was half a decade ago, and A LOT has changed for both her career, the world, and how her career is intrinsically woven into the fabric of global culture.

She was still successful, but a commercially declining artist when she was at this point in her career.

She rebounded tremendously since then, and a major reason for that is because she stopped talking about politics and then started dating Travis Kelce.

You have to remember she started out in Nashville, faked an accent for almost 10 years, and duped the whole country music world into thinking she wasn't just using them as a vehicle to bigger and better things (and good for her because it was an absolutely genius and flawless strategy) but by doing that, she gained an absolute F ton of republican teenage girls and their moms during her 2006-2014 era. Those INSANE album sales for her first four albums are not just overwhelmingly coming from liberals/democrats.

Those republican girls are now moms with kids of their own, and they clearly make up a good chunk of the people who attend her tours. They wouldn't be as likely to spend a month's salary on concert tickets for Taylor Swift had we been in 2017-2021.

She majorly rebranded in 2022 with the Midnights album and more importantly recaptured so many of those old fans with those Taylor Versions of her "stolen" records.

Taylor making a stern political statement at this point in time would definitely affect her commercial appeal negatively. It's sad, but that's the world we live in.

Some of you really should see a therapist about your anti-social behavior.

When you go to your boyfriend's work events, you don't walk around interrogating his bosses and coworkers in their political views.  You talk pleasantly about their life and what they are doing and move on.

It is possible (in fact encouraged) to be politically left and socially adjusted at the same time.

Her being political or not has nothing to do with the new level of success she achieved.  Her new career peak was a perfect storm of pivoting to folklore (which came out to great success during a time she was being outspoken politically online) and evermore, then the re-recordings (especially Red TV), Midnights, and the Eras tour.  And while dating Travis has gotten her more media attention, it is certainly not a "major reason" for her new success.  They didn't even start dating until the Eras tour was well underway.

The thing is, she's taken the Beyonce route of not talking or posting about pretty much anything online at all outside of her own work.

And Taylor didn't "dupe" the Country world.  She built her career there because she did love Country music, her earliest influences were The Chicks and Shania Twain.  She just didn't want to box herself in.

And I don't know if you missed it but she did make a political statement at this point in time:
