Both are among the best pop songs ever tbh

What You Waiting For? is the best, and also the most underrated. 

 

Hollaback Girl is overhated because it's still more of a bop than Rich Girl and Cool (although they both play at the grocery store I work at so I think I'm just overexposed to them).

Close call between WYWF? and Cool, kinda insane when an artist releases two of the best pop songs of all-time almost back to back.

Best song =/= best single per se..

 

HB is the best single for sure, but best (or my favorite) song is Cool, of course. WYWF follows close behind. Those two clear everything else on LAMBsus

i find Cool to be a teensy bit overrated. it's a flawless song, but WYWF has aged better for me

Cool is one of the best songs of all time.

This might be the only pop album I loved from the 00s and I'd say Cool feels massive, a classic since its release. The music video elevated the nostalgia. 
 

Also, has it ever been discussed how this era had a short lived new wave revival era (Shakira with Don't Bother, Avril with Hot, Gwen with Cool/WYWF etc)

 

Hollaback Girl is undeniably the most successful song about Courtney Love ever created (and there are a lot) and WYWF is one of the most sublime moments in pop ever, but I'll still choose Cool — the emotional performance, the dreamy synthesizers, the muted guitar, THE LOOKS, the drama… 

 

Not even Lady Gaga has had an album this good. Sue me.

I love them all...  But I have a special place for "Crash" in my heart
