Which album openers do you like the most, which ones are the best or the smartest?

 

Came across this video on about album openers. These are the main points it presents about what makes great album openers:

 

A successful first track should:

- Grab your attention

- Set up the theme

- Set up the tone / vibes 

 

3 common tactics used:

- Opening song is the album title

- Track 1 is an interlude

- Track 1 links to the final track

 

For me, Consideration on ANTI really grabs attention from the lyrics of Rih taking a strong position and sets the theme and tone of a raw sound and lyrics and a non-conforming album. 

Another one coming to mind is Pure Heroine by Lorde in which track 1 Tennis Court (''Don't you think it's boring how people talk'') links perfectly to the last track A World Alone (finishing by ''let them talk'').

like that was the first album and track I heard from them and it was bloody starter  even the intro is catchy asf.

Recently, "Wake Me Up" by Abel.

"Marry the Night" was the first to come to mind. I just remember being blown away by how epic it was. And, of course, "Crazy in Love."

Marry Thee Motherfucking Night is THAT song!

 

Also Disease slaps hard.  

 

 

Beyhive might slap me but I truly think American Requiem is Beyoncé's best album opener ever. It serves as the thesis statement of Cowboy Carter, it's unique blend of genres, vocally one of her best, produced impeccably. Truly excellent.
