ijbol remember when Solar Power had no CD bc of her climate activism - she said F the planet for this album, we cheered!

  • new track in 3 days.

  • I believe Melodrama remains her magnum opus, but Virgin sounds absolutely incredible. It's the Lorde we know, yet it also feels incredibly refreshing. In Hammer, she mentioned, "I might be born again,

Shapeshifter is such a career highlight :clap3: The production is so glorious

the last 40 seconds of current affairs is an out of body experience

maybe too early to tell but i think it might be be my favorite album of hers. i totally understand where she's coming. i find it so earnest and beautiful. the same way i felt about solar power despite knowing that it's not a popular opinion. personally i never understood melodrama, it just never hit on me. but the themes on PH, SP and Virgin all hit close to home and I relate to them all in different ways.

personally my rating would be Virgin > Pure Heroine > Solar Power > Melodrama

I wasn't planning on getting the vinyl but miss Ella will be getting my hard earn coins :jonny:

I feel the same way about Shapeshifter

Her interview for AM made me finally get what she was going for with this album and now I can appreciate it more, even if some songs aren't exactly how I wanted them to be. The album is succinct like she intended, without overthinking or aiming to be flawless and that has its charm.

I hope this way of thinking leads to her getting to put out new music more often, waiting less than 4 years for the next one would be good for a change.

My favorites from my first listen (in no order):

Current Affairs

Hammer

Shapeshifter

Broken Glass

If She Could See Me Now

But I really don't dislike any song! I'm interested in seeing how I'll feel as I listen to it more and pick up on different things.

Melodrama is still a lot stronger, but this is better than solar power.

The way I literally hated all the 3 prerelease songs but every other song slaps ?????

like it's actually on par with melodrama for me which is INSANE

if she could see me now alone might be one of the best songs ever ???????

Get behind me because I agree.

I like the album a lot, for sure!! The highs are also higher than the highs on Solar Power, but there's 5 tracks that I consider really exceptional. Whereas the entirety of Solar Power has always just hit for me.

I'll be back to follow up in a few hours when you have more listens to see if that shakes up your ranking.

Lorde has done it again. Virgin is just as good as Melodrama.
