Over the past year, Katy Perry, known for her starring role in The Smurfs 2, has been the subject of much discussion and scrutiny for various reasons, including her decision to work with disgraced producer Doctor Luke for her album 143, the tone-deaf lead single WOMAN'S WORLD for her album 143, her album 143, her decision to go on an all-female space flight funded by Jeff Bezos, her decision to leave Never Really Over off of the Lifetimes tour set list, AI material used extensively within both the tour and its promotional materials, and several viral clips of her "performing" on stage. While this backlash has generated some fantastic memes and GIFs, many are concerned that the hate is getting too much, with people insinuating she should've died in space and being nasty about her daughter.

What do you, the denizens of ATRL think? Has the backlash against the prestigious Indian Grammy winner gotten too much? Or are the lashings warranted given everything that's transpired? Vote in the poll and share your thoughts below.

Yeah, it's getting weird. Everything starting in Summer 2024 was a choice.....

The only thing that annoys me are the tired drags some people just use because they want to belong. Like girl, if you're gonna drag Katy Perry in 2025 you need to be a bit more original

:suburban:

yes. people are targetting also her daughter now.

katy perry has a list of hundreds of things to whack, why daizé in it? we should be talking more about her racist past and microagressions for example...

no, she shouldn't have a career anymore after her (and KittyKats) evil behaviour with Woman's World.

there are clear boundaries that people whacking pop culture figures should respect, which include family (kids) and death. I have no issue if people want to whack Katy or her fans, but it's just common decency to leave her child out of it. those kinds of insults aren't even clever or funny, just weird.

It is becoming too much, really.
I bet 90% of her haters would be even more cringey if they were as famous as her.

I think the hate is a bit overstated and limited to stan/pop circles, because she is irrelevant to the GP.

However, the child thing is vile.

This is child's play compared to what Britney went through in 2006-2008. Katy should suck it up

Let's be real — Katy's been cruising for a dragging since she hitched her wagon to Doctor Luke again like it was 2013 and public opinion didn't exist. 143 sounds like it was assembled from rejected TikTok jingles and motivational quotes found in a bargain bin, and WOMAN'S WORLD? That's not a song, that's a hate crime against ears.

The tour? A dystopian fever dream of AI nonsense and glitching Katy-bots flailing on stage like the Wi-Fi cut out mid-performance. And leaving Never Really Over off the setlist was the final slap — like she's actively trying to erase the last time people liked her music.

So yeah, the backlash is intense. But if you launch yourself into space with Bezos, come back, and still can't deliver, maybe Earth isn't the problem.

It's insane how much love she was getting just before she released Woman's World online.. the hype for a new era was strong esp. on Tik Tok

What is this :deadbanana:Why tf is a 3yo in it?? 'Fuckin dumb *****' that's is not even a drag but something a teenager in a Call Of Duty chat would say

pls other artists get much more hate just for breathing, this is nothing :rip: whack her again !

*obviously children need to be left out of it, only a complete freak would target kids over stan/popstar stuff

I'm going to say yes. Nitpicking everything makes the valid critique lose its impact.

This is true, the worst part about all of this is that it's self inflicted :toofunny3: Even an another Smile era where she does cookie cutter HAC pop would've been received somewhat positively, even if she didn't smash.

Yes, the Kesha fans are feeling brave :duck:

like who cares about the Kesha community being 50 people :doc:

i don't agree other artists get more online hate than her. i think Katy is peak hate.

There has been countless hate trains those past months/years and i know that very well :deadbanana2: but i don't think anyone hate train was BIGGER than Katy.

Just equal or less.

So yeah it is too much

Literally not being dramatic when I say the only women more hated are JLo, Blake Lively, and Amber Heard.
