Every single woman in pop music has

-a song that uses a Barbie metaphor

-a song that uses an alien concept

-a song that namedrops James Dean

And if you think of someone who doesn't, you just need to wait a bit because it's coming someday.

INTRO (END OF THE WORLD)

Average score: 5.98

High score: 10 (@Spicy Pisces, @Reverie, @Born to Run)

Low score: 1 (@Norte)

Ariana sets up her divorce album with this brief, brutally honest confession to her husband that she’s been thinking about another sponge, er, man. The shimmering “Intro (End of the World)” is a mere 92 seconds – and still managed to beat ELEVEN tracks from The Tortured Poets Department on this countdown.

Best bit: when she teases some falsetto on “moon” and then really lets loose on “dark”

ATRL says…: “A perfect opener and one of the best interludes of all time,” @Helix gushed. No one else was quite so ebullient. @Ewan Chaos called it a “cute intro,” but felt the “full version wasn't really needed.” @MusicLoverDude countered that “I prefer the extended version,” as does @makeawish. “It's a very brief intro,” he observed. “There's some nice harmonies, it functions just fine for what it is, but I tend to be mystified by the big numbers this has.” @glitch had “nothing against this but I'm not giving a high score to an intro track.”

Good spot for this - it's a nice intro. The extended version is a chop.

This means #B10 is still happening. The prophecy declares it so.

It's just because it was the third song on the album.

Fourth! So it is a little bit impressive.

It really takes you out of the moment when you remember this album is mostly about Ethan Slater

I don't know about you, but I've been inexplicably attracted to ugly people before too, so it's relatable.

Up next is the last one for today. And sorry, I really don't have any better news for the Swifties.

Now where are those supposedly panned lead singles? Show them to me Rachel!

FRESH OUT THE SLAMMER

Average score: 5.99

High score: 10 (@a_d_22, @K$Ellie, @Ken Lee)

Low score: 1 (@Ewan Chaos, @Norte, @Born to Run)

Taylor’s relationship with Joe Alwyn apparently became a boring ass prison for her. Now she’s “Fresh Out the Slammer” and running to a new partner in crime on this hopeful ode to the outlaw Matty Healy. Harkening back to Taylor’s country roots, the song’s simple yet sweeping arrangement is one of the most arresting (pun intended!) on The Tortured Poets Department.

Best bit: Taylor is spitting bars with “splintered back in winter, silent dinners, bitter”

ATRL says…: “I like the windswept vibe to this,” @makeawish wrote. “Perhaps it doesn't quite go off like some of the best songs but you do get that airy sense of freedom about it. And again, it's catchy. Taylor almost always remembers to write a tune even for the most low-key song.” @Achilles. said it “functions as both a remake and a sequel to ‘Getaway Car.’ Both songs are about getting out of a relationship and right into another one. But narratively it's like she was in the getaway car but she got caught and sent to prison and now she's out. I feel like nobody understands this but me.” @Curaga loved “the assonance in the first verse.” @MusicLoverDude called it “a very interesting song!”

Oh Billie, the sapphic icon you are (and then Lunch is the first out)

The massacre :rip: Deserved though, Guilty as Sin is the only song of hers left that I'd like to see go the distance

Aw, the title track is out too now? That's a shame... who uses typewriters anyway?

An entire mess. Nonna deserved better but Taylor got what she deserved so I'm torn

Billie probably was the unanimous favourite even among stans here. I predict she's gonna stomp the top 5/10 so easily
