Lover to folklore wasn't just a huge musical jump it was also the biggest career jump the industry has ever seen. Without folklore the successes of the rerecordings, and Midnights would've been in question and there might've been no Eras Tour which throws the success of TTPD into question.

The Bey example you posted is correct, but I still believe that Lana's first three albums sound alike.

Demi going from DWTDTAOSO to HOLY ****. the former is lush, spring, dream-pop vibes and the other is a dark, explicit, hard-rock moment.

Where's Loose? Nelly going from Explode and Try to Maneater and Promiscuous was huge.

but they don't ?  you can argue that honeymoon resembles btd due to the trap elements and heavy string usage + the typical melancholic lana lyricism. (and even then, honeymoon is much dreamier, film noir inspired, trap heavy and jazz influenced than btd, also much slower and less pop-y) 

 

but btd and uv definitely sound nothing alike, both have very distinct sonic identities. one blends cinematic orchestration with hip and trip-hop influences, while the other is grungy, psychedelic desert rock. they could hardly be any further apart from each other  even mixing wise, one's grandiose and highly polished (a little too polished even) while the other one's a lot grittier and rawer.

AL to COADF. The former was super politically charged, touched on many introspective and personal topics and had a very sinister undertone all around. The latter is quite literally the opposite. Glitzy, shining instrumentals and very broad subjects (mainly love and dancing), nothing too personal.

oh I was thinking more like… Never for Ever to The Dreaming or "Heroes" to Lodger but these are fair too!

 

ummm I guess Artpop to Joanne! but Lover to Folklore is obviously a somewhat better version of that lolol (love Gaga and love Artpop obviously but Joanne will always be a weak spot in her discography for me )

High Road to Gag Order wasn't the hugest 180°, but I'm also speaking as a dedicated animal of 15ish years who's well-versed in the realm of her immaculate unreleased collection. but still, putting myself in the mindset of a more casual listener the best I can, High Road was already a bizarre pop album, and you can hear hints of the experimentation she'd do on Gag Order in songs like My Own Dance, Kinky, and Potato Song, while a song like Only Love Can Save Us Now is standard Kesha material (not that I don't love it) and would fit perfectly in a playlist alongside Raising Hell, High Road, and Little Bit of Love. Gag Order is a natural follow up to High Road, real stans know she's always wanted to experiment in an all out fashion instead of just pop with some experimental undertones
