I'm sorry but let's just call a spade a spade and recognize what the point of this is.

 

If someone doesn't want to use Twitter, that's their prerogative, but this kind of cynical co-option of progressive rhetoric for liberal means just ends up in what are reactionary and meaningless actions. No one who actually thinks using Twitter is "supporting a nazi" is then going to suggest to aimlessly "read the news" unless somehow one nazi billionaire like Bezos or countless others is somehow good or better than others like Musk. 

 

(Linking to twitter also proliferated how it has due to most forums explicitly asking you not copy over more than 30%~ of an article to avoid copyright issues. If it's suddenly okay to just copy pay-walled content or provide links to circumvent paywalls, which is often what Twitter did, then such would be actionable.)

 

The elephant in the room is that a subset of liberals are still resentful that Twitter is largely a unique space for political conversation and that such conversation had not been in Democrats' favor from any direction, despite that what's shared on Twitter via commentary and opinion or breaking news is often relevant as news. 

 

I'm sympathetic to people feeling powerless and thus get why "I'm not gonna use Twitter/X anymore" feels like something tangible they can personally do. I place no ill or malicious intent on anyone feeling this way. But it's awkward to see people who made clear written defenses for Biden or Harris supporting the Palestinian genocide pivot and try some now weird "hmm funny to see LEFTISTS supporting a NAZI WEBSITE!" as some gotcha to people linking to twitter in the Civics section. A phenomenon that even @Bloo has commented on (x) (x). 

Anyway, I was thinking of finally cashing in and requesting a username change, but like...

 

It feels like when you're not allowed to change any forms of ID once on the no-fly list your branding is too iconic, you can't just change it willy-nilly.

Question about the possible Twitter ban: when you say "ban", is it just that the links will no longer embed, or that posting Twitter links (and further, Twitter content — like images) at all will be warnable?

 

Either way, while I definitely admire and agree with the reason behind the ban, I don't think I fully agree with the ban itself solely because so much of the stan world continues to live there, and banning that part of it from either showing here or even being posted here will segment us off from that. It might not be too noticeable at first, but I think it will become more obvious as time passes. This isn't even mentioning the more serious things that Twitter helps enrich this site with, such as news.

 

Is that worth overlooking what the site is possibly slowly turning into? That I can't answer, and I don't think many of us that are even in agreement on how we feel about fElon can agree on what to make of our feelings on current Twitter. But it's something to consider.
